About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for two Temporary Part-Time Plasma Associates to join our Plasma Operations team in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

 

The Plasma Operations team is responsible for planning the framework and operational infrastructure to deliver on our plasma collection goals, and to advance our strategy in securing a domestic supply of plasma for immune globulin, as part of ensuring Canadians have access to these life-saving products.

 

Formula for success

  • Utilizing your excellent organizational skills, you will assemble and prepare supplies, equipment and associated documentation required to expedite collection process; you will also prepare product samples for shipment to testing facility and to fractionator and ensure documentation requirements and products meet specifications.
  • Leveraging your superb people skills and ability to communicate effectively, you will conduct confidential donor screening, obtain donor consent, complete donor registration, and respond to inquiries and concerns regarding plasma donation/process, etc.
  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience, you will perform venepuncture according to established standards; you will also prepare products for freezing, monitor temperatures, and centrifuge product samples as per established procedures.
  • Using your excellent interpersonal skills, you will assist with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution preferably in science/health related field of study.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Completion of a formal training program in phlebotomy, an asset.
  • Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Adaptable, flexible and comfortable with frequent changes.
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment.
  • The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory.
  • Computer literacy required.

  • Currently the work days can include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday; Shift start and stop times are as follows 0645-1245, 0700-1300, 0730-1330, 0830-1430, 1330-1930, 1430-2030, 1515-2115, 0845-1445, 0815-1415, 930-1530, 0915-1515; Rest days are Saturday/Sunday, Sunday/Monday.
