About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Laboratory Technician, National Immunohematology Reference Laboratory to join our dynamic Testing team.
The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing routine testing, as well as other relevant lab duties.
Formula for success
- Receives, inspects, stores and prepares blood components and/or samples according to approved work instructions.
- Performs routine equipment operation and maintenance as well as manual procedures and activities under the guidance of a MLT in accordance with operating procedures.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies, assists with inventory counting, ordering and receipt/inspection of shipments as per operating procedures.
- Maintains and provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Maintains proper storage of blood components and/or samples.
- Promotes on-going quality improvement activities and continuous learning.
- Ensures working area is maintained in an orderly and safe manner; uses personal protective equipment as required.
- Follows GMP guidelines for all documentation required.
- Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Canadian Blood Services’ Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Desired education and skills
- Registered with the MLPAO – Medical Laboratory Professional Association of Ontario and/or foreign trained Medical Technologist with experience who does not have registered status in Canada and/or formal education, or equivalent post-secondary and one year laboratory work experience or an equivalent education in an appropriate Health Sciences Discipline.
- Ability to learn required technical skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of the team.
- Must have good organizational skills and ability to prioritize are required.
- Must have the ability to operate automated equipment and computerized workstations.
- Must show attention to detail and the ability to perform detailed documentation in an accurate and legible manner.
- Must be able to pass all job-related competency assessments.
- The ability to function as part of a lab team and demonstrated regular attendance is required.
