About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Manager, Testing to join our dynamic Testing team. 

 

In this role, you will direct and manage the site laboratory processes and logistics, collectively manage the continuity of testing across all Donor Testing sites and manage planned and unanticipated interruptions in the testing processes.

Formula for success

 

  • Leveraging your excellent leadership skills, you will manage the laboratory process flows to meet customer needs, as well as monitor operational effectiveness through key performance indicators and other means.
  • Drawing on your knowledge or experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will develop and monitor the capital equipment and operating budget for the testing laboratory site including technical and performance aspects of testing.
  • You will provide guidance by overseeing staff training, development, and success planning initiatives.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will participate in corporate initiatives to improve operational and technical efficiency and effectiveness.
  • You will sustain in-depth understanding of medical laboratory science and procedural techniques by engaging in advanced studies, reviewing current literature, and participating in conferences.
     

Desired education and skills

 

  • Certified general registered technologist with Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and professional college as required in province of testing site College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Minimum six (6) to ten (10) years related laboratory experience including a minimum of five (5) years supervisory/managerial experience and management training, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Several years of transfusion medicine or molecular testing related laboratory experience is required, with a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Office, and SharePoint.
  • Must have experience with analytical testing software associated with automated test equipment.

What you can expect

 

  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday days, with rotational on call for weekend emergency coverage.
  • Travel requirements - travel will be required for training purposes.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
