About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Technical Specialist, Transmissible Diseases to join our dynamic Testing team. 

 

The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by testing, investigating and performing procedures. In this role, you will co-ordinate the daily testing activities and perform procedures following work instructions related to the testing laboratory.

Formula for success

 

  • Coordinates the daily activities of testing of Transmissible Diseases following operating procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate performance of testing by reviewing and monitoring related testing quality control/assurance activities.
  • Performs, verifies and documents routine maintenance and verification procedures of laboratory equipment in accordance with approved work instructions and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains technical competency and promote continuous learning.
  • Ensures adequate inventory and supplies and shipment acceptance is completed.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in ongoing Blood Group Serology related quality improvement activities or special projects.

 

 

Desired education and skills

  • Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists Ontario (CMLTO) 
  • Knowledge and experience of the techniques within the area, polymerase chain reaction testing and theory, immunochemistry testing and theory
  • Experience assisting in the training/scheduling/evaluating personnel, development and implementation of procedures.
  • Two to five years of related laboratory experience required 
  • Must demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of Transmissible Disease Testing principles, procedures and instrumentation
  • Previous GMP experience preferred.

  • Shift/hours - Must be available to work Monday to Sunday - mornings and afternoons, schedule will be provided in advance.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
