About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Testing Support Associate to join our dynamic Testing team. 

 

The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing process support and subject matter expertise to Testing sites in resolving issues. In this role, You will establish, implement, monitor and evaluate results from relevant key performance indicators (KPI) and ensure excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external customers.  You will be required to provide subject matter expertise that will assist in planning and implementation of new projects or initiatives.

Formula for success

 

  • Leads standardization and process improvement initiatives by supporting the effective implementation of initiatives at Testing sites.  Facilitates, assists, and promotes the development of processes to capture opportunities for improvement & standardization.
  • Provides process support to the Testing sites by developing, preparing, reviewing, and maintaining work instruction forms and training materials to ensure consistency and standardization.  Develops and implements training material and educational sessions to ensure training needs of Testing staff are identified and standardized.
  • Participates in new projects or initiatives for Testing by providing input and assistance in the development of project proposals/plans, project related validation scripts, and decision documents, and by providing detailed analysis and other input into the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives in Testing to increase safety, cost effectiveness, standardization, and efficiency. 
  • As a subject matter expert, provides technical support and information to the Testing sites and Head Office departments to facilitate problem solving and resolution of issues or trends pertaining to methodologies or computer applications, manual and automated testing procedures, equipment or reagents associated with Transmissible Disease or Product Quality Control testing.  
  • Advises technical and professional staff by co-coordinating regular meetings with Testing or Head Office site representation and/or vendors to resolve current and outstanding issues in the departments, while ensuring that recommendations and decisions are documented and maintained. 
  • Assists and participates in the continuous quality improvement activities for the Testing sites by establishing and implementing staff competencies to monitor site performance, and by continuously reviewing all regulatory standards, preparing gap analysis reports to advise senior management of standard changes and assisting them in ensuring compliance. 
  • Tracks, trends, and monitors the Transmissible Diseases and Product Testing quality control programs as well as test performance by developing KPIs and by preparing monthly reports that may recommend corrective measures.
  • Participates in the evaluation of test kits, reagents, equipment and/or software by developing user requirements, specifications, selection criteria and decision matrices to ensure the selection of the appropriate product. 

Desired education and skills

 

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working in a Supervisory or Charge Technologist capacity or extensive experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist where testing processes are being supported. 
  • An appropriate Provincial Medical Laboratory Technologist License is required (CSMLS/CMLTO). 
  • BSc. in Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) or equivalent experience is an asset. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, analytical and planning skills required. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential for presentation to all levels of employees. 
  • Computer skills are essential with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Software Programs including Access, Excel, Power Point, and Word applications. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education. 
  • Ability to travel if required.
