Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Associate Director - Fresh Blood Product (FBP) Supply Planning to join our dynamic Supply Chain Planning team. The work of an Associate Director - Fresh Blood Product (FBP) Supply Planning is integral to Canadian Blood Services’ role as Canada’s Biological Lifeline.

 

In this role, you will lead the integrated supply chain planning team for Fresh Blood Products (FBP) and will be accountable for all supply and inventory planning processes for this product line. You will lead the development of plans to meet customer needs while achieving productivity, financial, and operational targets. A critical role at the intersection of several national oversight functions, regional operations, and evolving strategies, the incumbent is also responsible for leading and/or representing the integrated supply chain in critical portfolio and organizational initiatives.
 

Formula for Success

Lead Integrated Supply Chain Planning for the FBP portfolio:

  • Develops and executes national supply planning strategies that support CBS’ strategic objectives while ensuring continuity of supply to meet patient needs
  • Partners with stakeholders including but not limited to Collections, Medical Affairs & Innovation, Finance, and Supply Chain Operations to drive the monthly sales and operations (S&OP) / integrated business planning (IBP) process by conducting supply/demand analysis and strategic recommendations and decisions
  • Leads the FBP planning process and associated tools, ensuring alignment and compliance with corporate planning requirements.
  • Manages development and implementation of appropriate key performance indicators and associated reporting processes

Lead supply planning processes for FBP:

  • Capacity planning: determines the amount of capacity available and required to produce transfusable products as planned
  • Supply planning: determines how best to fulfill the requirements created from the demand plan in a manner that will meet customer needs and achieve productivity, financial, and operational targets
  • Master production scheduling: creates master production schedule for all products, through deep understanding of production plans coupled with close partnerships with demand planning, production planning, inventory planning and manufacturing operations.
  • Production planning: plans, organizes, and coordinates production schedules to effectively deploy a production schedule that allows manufacturing to run as effectively as possible while meeting customer expectations. Keeps constant contact with master production scheduling, operations and inventory teams to understand any potential issues that appear (such as labour shortages or supply shortages), which may impact production schedules

Drive continuous improvement in supply planning processes and systems, including:

  • Implements increased automation and use of ERP to standardize and drive efficiencies into the planning process
  • Leverages data and ERP systems to generate insights and resolution of process bottlenecks and inefficiencies
  • Ensures talent development in ERP, SAP IBP and related tools and technology capabilities
  • Ensures delivery of evolving supply and inventory best practice and policy within CBS
  • Ensures resources are aligned to capacity, multi-product integration and are positioned for scalability

Manage risks and reporting associated with FBP operations:

  • Identifies, mitigates, and escalates risk associated with the FBP supply plan
  • Builds a risk management mindset within the planning team
  • Works with regional and head office supply leadership teams to ensure supply plan risks are clearly understood and managed
  • Ensure that Supply and Inventory Planning inputs into other corporate planning and reporting processes are relevant, timely and accurate
     

Desired Education & Skills

 

  • B.S.c. in Engineering/Operations/Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience is required
  • Advanced degree in engineering or business is an asset
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing/supply chain environment, including senior leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in supply chain planning and management
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working across functions and departments to deliver results
  • Knowledge of ERP/SAP systems in supply chain management
  • Exposure to project management and project management techniques
  • Effective leadership skills, proven ability to exercise sound judgement and decision making
  • Ability to interpret and translate detailed data into relevant information, present information to a wide variety of audiences
