Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About this role

 

Canadian Blood Services are looking for a passionate individual to join the Strategic Facilities Management and Business Integration team. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Sustainability and Energy Systems, within the Strategic Facilities Management Department, we are looking for an Energy Project Manager who will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the Facilities Infrastructure and Operations team as well as to other CBS departments.
 

We are looking for someone with >5-years' experience in the energy management field and who has a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation. As CBS’ energy manager, you will be responsible for managing the energy use of multiple facilities and working on energy reduction initiatives spanning various departments and interacting with diverse teams.

Formula for Success

 

  • Leveraging your expertise in Energy Management, design, develop and implement an energy management plan aligned with the organization’s GHG emission reduction targets and overall CSR targets resulting in overall energy reduction and improved lifecycle.
  • Drawing on your collaborative skills work closely with internal stakeholders to integrate energy strategies and efficiencies into operations, capital planning as well as construction and design project scopes.
  • Using your reporting and planning skills, implement energy tracking, monitoring and developing periodic reports while managing budgets, scheduling and approvals for various renovations, construction and engineering projects.
  • Harnessing your technical skills, manage energy use reduction projects such as retrofits, alternative energy installs, system replacements etc. employing external consultants, contractors and service technicians when required. 
  • Utilizing your knowledge of Energy Management, be a leader of change for energy management programs, provide advice and consultation to the organization as an SME and increase visibility of energy management through training and awareness to help improve employee engagement in energy management practices and initiatives. 
  • Using a Continuous Improvement approach, identify opportunities, initiate RFP/RFQ processes for new and innovative technologies for energy reduction opportunities. Apply for rebates, funding and grants for energy saving initiatives. 
  • Employing your people skills, foster and grow relationships with stakeholder, utilities and other interested and affected parties to obtain buy-in and serve as an integral member on the corporate environmental sustainability working group for climate related risk reduction. 

     

Desired Education and Skills

 

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Engineering Technician, Certified Engineering Technologist, Energy Manager in Training (EMIT), or a licensed professional engineer.
    • Successful applicant will be required to obtain CEM designation within the first year of employment.
  • Strong background in energy management.
  • Five years management experience in Construction and Engineering project management, preferable in a health care or GMP setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation and standards relating to energy, engineering and construction.
  • Effective management of multiple initiatives and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Experience using RETScreen, PowerBI, Microsoft suite of tools, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, ISO 50001, Experience with drawings (engineering, architectural and as-build)

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Travel may be required to a CBS site for assessment once a month as required.
