Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Project Manager to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations team.
In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, management, development and implementation of specific Canadian Blood Services projects or components of major, complex projects to support the effective operations of the transport, warehousing, production, and distribution operations in their assigned region. You will work closely with the functional business groups and Project Team to achieve project objectives in accordance with established cost and time parameters. You will also provide coordination and contribute to the development of business cases, and project activities, while monitoring progress, analysing, reporting on related issues and risks, and providing guidance and advice to the project team members.
Formula for success
• Leveraging your project management skills, you will lead and manage activities within defined projects and/or specific work streams (including review and sign-off to support timely completion of projects) by working with various teams and tracking deliverables. You will ensure the project progresses as planned, coordinating with various departments and facilitating regular and additional meetings as needed.
• Drawing on your knowledge and experience, you will assess, monitor, and escalate risks, develop and implement mitigation strategies, and manage project budgets and procurement needs. Your role will lead the development of small project business cases and/or participate in the development of business cases for larger scale projects. You will identify and estimate project benefits, scope, risks, resource requirements, timelines, costs, and funding in consultation with staff and external resources, and procure software and required equipment and supplies following purchasing policies.
• Utilizing your organizational skills, you will develop project plans, contribute to consultation with partners and communication plans, and participate in working groups to address cross-functional issues. For example, you will plan, coordinate, and execute activities with Supply Chain management teams to achieve project goals and objectives.
• Applying your relationship-building skills, you will facilitate collaboration and support from departments, leaders, and stakeholders, ensuring effective project implementation.
• With your strong communication skills, you will develop messaging for staff and partners, represent Regional Supply Chain interests in project planning, and keep the project team informed of strategies and status. You will also provide regular status reports to key partners and carry forward proposed changes in scope, schedule, budget, and risk for review and approval.
Desired education and skills
• Completion of post-secondary level education from a recognized academic institution, preferably a university degree in a related field.
• A minimum of 4 years of related experience in various project management roles.
• Experience in a regulated or unionized environment is desirable.
• Knowledge of business processes, regulatory environment, and project management principles and practices.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret business needs and develop integrated, creative solutions.
• Ability to work independently with sound judgement and understanding of when to seek direction.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, being able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities within timelines.
• Ability to support projects that are geographically dispersed throughout the region.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and external stakeholders.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
