Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role 

 

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Quality Assurance Manager – Testing Services to join our dynamic Quality Assurance – Medical Services and Innovation team working out of CBS’s Calgary or Brampton siteThe work of the Quality Assurance Manager is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada's Lifeline. 

 

This position ensures the safety and quality of Testing Services at Canadian Blood Services. You will have a thorough understanding of patient and donor testing processes and systems and associated regulations, standards, and best practices including the theory and application of quality management system elements to the products and services provided by the Canadian Blood Services donor testing and diagnostic services teams. 

 

Under the leadership of the Associate Director, QA Medical Services and Innovation, you will be responsible for the management, execution and evaluation of established quality assurance activities, ensuring effective and efficient people and process management, in an environment which fully recognizes the benefits of operating in accordance with quality principles. 

 

You will lead the development of your team by understanding the collaborative effort required within a team environment and optimizing the team to be successful in meeting or exceeding all quality assurance objectives. You will use performance-based measurements to align the objectives of the team to meet the strategic objectives of the Quality & Regulatory Affairs division and Canadian Blood Services. 

 

You will also be responsible for partnering and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure the quality management system program, procedures, and tools meet user business needs and regulatory requirements.

  • Channeling your superior interpersonal and communication skills, you will manage the Quality Assurance – Testing Services team and budget to ensure effective and efficient use of resources in a positive working environment in which the team will feel empowered, challenged, and engaged. 

  • Drawing on your quality assurance experience, you will monitor and trend process performance and product quality data to ensure a state of control and compliance to requirements/specifications associated with the delivery of CBS products and services. 

  • Leveraging your expertise in continuous improvement, you will drive or contribute to initiatives that improve processes and services - from development and implementation to ongoing monitoring and optimization. 

  • You will cultivate and maintain strong, integrated working relationships with all CBS teams including Medical Affairs and Innovation colleagues to support seamless day-to-day operations and advance strategic objectives.    

 

Desired Education and skills

 

  • Post-secondary level science-based education such as a bachelor's degree in a related discipline from a recognized academic institution or equivalent professional education and experience 

  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience in a pharmaceutical, medical device or biological manufacturing environment following Good Manufacturing Practices or in-depth knowledge of a comparable quality management system 

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a quality assurance function within a testing or diagnostics program/organization following Good Manufacturing Practices 

  • 1-3 years of progressive management experience 

  • Certification or formalized education in Quality Management Systems 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Management System elements  

  • Ability to work with a team of high-performing professionals 

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills  

  • Demonstrated sound organizational and management skills 

  • Proven effective interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, written and verbal communications skills 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common business software packages 

  • Familiarity with electronic budget preparation and monitoring

What you can expect 

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location with minimum 60-80% of the time on site at either CBS’s Brampton or Calgary production site

  • Travel requirements – semi-regular to other CBS sites

  • On-call evening and weekend support may be required
