Reporting to the Manager of Regional Lab-Donor Testing, the Supervisor is responsible for providing management subject matter expertise to testing operations for the laboratory. You will be required to provide technical expertise for both Donor and Patient testing which includes automated serology, automated antibody identification and a manual testing area.

 

Key Responsibilities Include

 

  • The Technical Supervisor manages the laboratory process flows to meet customer needs.
  • Monitors operational effectiveness through key performance indicators.
  • Monitors and reports compliance with corporate quality standards for all laboratory areas. 
  • Manages testing facility and equipment to ensure that there is adequate space for current and future testing needs.
  • Ensures equipment is appropriate for testing needs and meets specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that environmental and facility occupational health and safety requirements are met.
  • Manages the supervisory, technical, training and support staff assigned to the consolidated testing laboratory site.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities, special projects and conducts a regular review of operations. 
  • Maintains effective communication on all levels. 
  • Maintains comprehensive theoretical knowledge of medical laboratory science and procedural methods through advanced studies, reviewing current literature and attending conferences. 

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

  • Certified general registered technologist with Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) holding a current license with the applicable provincial College of Medical Laboratory Technology and all related provincial professional association is required.
  • BSc, ART or SBB, or equivalent experience or training preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years related laboratory experience.
  • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge and understanding of Transfusion Science is mandatory.
  • Experience in the training/scheduling/evaluating personnel, development.
  • Previous GMP experience or in depth knowledge of comparable quality management systems.
