About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time CAPA Specialist to join our dynamic Quality Management System team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.


The Quality Management System (QMS) team is responsible for leading the advancement and maturation of our quality management system. It empowers the organization by delivering effective, efficient, and timely services, along with subject-matter expertise in quality and regulatory matters.


Reporting to the Manager, CAPA, the CAPA Specialist leads, coaches, and facilitates CAPA (Corrective Action and Preventive Action) investigations. CAPA Specialists will collaborate with responsible teams to investigate problems, identify root causes, propose solutions, ensure recommendations align with established processes and solutions are effective. This role is required to work across various departments to support the timely completion of investigations, and partner with cross-functional leadership and front-line teams to ensure thorough, effective resolution of assigned investigations.


Formula for success

  • Drawing on your critical thinking skills and expertise in facilitation and team dynamics, you will serve as the lead facilitator and team coach, guiding CAPA investigations and problem-solving initiatives to resolution.
  • Utilizing your analytical skills, you will collect and analyze data using appropriate tools to accurately determine root causes and inform decision-making.
  • Applying your technical writing and organizational skills, you will prepare investigation reports outlining the full investigation story, generate CAPA plans, and conduct effectiveness checks to ensure compliance and sustainability.
  • Engaging your collaborative mindset and interpersonal skills, you will solicit leadership support and collaborate with affected departments to obtain buy-in and necessary approvals, as well as drive problem solving participation.
  • Employing your project management skills, you will monitor progress and timelines to ensure on-time completion of all CAPA milestones and deliverables.
  • Your communication skills will be used to provide regular updates on new and outstanding CAPA items during meetings.
  • Utilizing your strong training skills, you will facilitate and lead problem-solving workshops rooted in adult learning principles, coaching and mentoring staff to complete problem-solving exercises.
  • Championing continuous improvement, you will lead and participate in CAPA team improvement initiatives.


Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in a life science, engineering, or business discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated manufacturing environment where Good Manufacturing Practices are applied. 
    CQPA (Certified Quality Process Analyst), CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), Lean and Six Sigma Certifications and related experiences considered an asset.
  • Proven and progressive experience in completing CAPA investigations, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, influencing and negotiation.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services’ 270 John Savage Ave, Dartmouth location at least 40% of the time (2 days of the week). This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • Occasional travel within Canada will be required for work commitments and team meetings.
