Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Assistant Manager to join our dynamic Field Logistics team in Victoria or Kelowna.  In this role you will be responsible for providing direction and leadership in the day to day delivery of field logistics support in the areas of transportation, fleet management, dispatcher over-sight, distribution of products to hospitals, shipping / receiving, warehousing and inventory management, local requisitioning and procurement, storage / removal and disposal of biomedical waste, management of all transportation supplies and preparation of clinic kits for donor clinics including donor refreshments.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provides logistical support to site customers, including Clinic and Donor Services, Product and Hospital Services, Donor Testing and Patient Services and in the areas of transportation and supply services including the management of transportation supplies including procurement support of the site operations
  • Participates as a member of the Regional and Site Management Team and is responsible for building relationships of cooperation, trust and respect with internal and external customers and reports
  • Complies with Collective Agreements, Non-Unionized Terms and Conditions of Employment and Corporate Policies and Procedures
  • Participates in the grievance and problem resolution process
  • Hires new department staff in accordance with the corporate recruitment selection process
  • Evaluates performance of all staff within the department and ensures that all relevant information regarding performance is documented, including the annual and any other performance appraisals
  • In consultation with Human Resources and the Manager, Field Logistics, follows disciplinary process, as required
  • Develops, implements and monitors local processes that are necessary to meet transportation and supply services requirements.  Compliant with SOP’s, WI’s, Health Canada and Transport Canada Regulations. 
  • Actively participates in the planning and scheduling of mobile clinic equipment and people
  • Is responsible for the budgeting, master schedule development in consultation with stakeholders
  • Prepares program budget under area of responsibility and provides input in the development of the overall budget requirements to ensure department objectives are met for staffing, equipment, supplies and program initiatives
  • Travel to Vancouver for support is required

Required Skills:

  • Post secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution
  • Minimum of five years of related experience in field logistics areas of fleet management, dispatch, distribution, warehouse or supply chain
  • Experience in a logistically complex environment on the basis of staffing levels, multiple sites, concurrent level of activity, number of customers and geographical territory
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment
  • Understanding and experience within regulated environments
  • Strong analytical abilities coupled with effective problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment, providing the necessary skills to manage effectively in a rapidly changing environment with a focus on customer service
  • Proficiency using computers is required. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suites and a good working knowledge of SAP or other ERP financial, purchasing and warehouse management modules is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills, client focused thinking and ability to work with management at all levels
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable legislations, including Provincial Highway Traffic Acts, Motor Vehicle Acts, Dangerous Goods Act and Provincial Environment Acts
  •  Ability to prepare, recommend and manage budgets, and provide clear and well supported analysis
  • Ability to create, introduce or promote new ideas to improve logistics functions
