About the role:

 

Canadian Blood Services is looking for Regular part-time Plasma Associates to join our dynamic Plasma Operations team. 

 

The Plasma Operations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting plasma in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. . In this role, you will be responsible for performing assigned duties associated with the plasma donation and production process as defined by standard operating procedures. You will participate in projects/continuous improvement initiatives that contribute to the success of the program. You will also act as an ambassador of the program to promote and contribute to a collaborative and customer-centric work environment.

 

Formula for success:

 

  • Utilizing your organizational skills, you will assemble and prepare supplies, equipment and associated documentation required to expedite collection process.
  • Drawing on your customer service and communication skills, you will conduct confidential donor screening, obtain donor consent, complete donor registration, and respond to inquiries and concerns regarding plasma donation/process, etc.
  • Applying your skills in blood collection, you will perform venepuncture according to established standards.
  • Applying your knowledge with blood collection processes, you will prepare product samples for freezing, shipment to testing facilities, monitor temperatures, and centrifuge product samples as per established procedures. 
  • Employing your interpersonal and leadership skills, you will assist with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base.

 

Desired education and skills:

 

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution preferably in science/health related field of study.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Completion of a formal training program in phlebotomy, an asset.
  • Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Adaptable, flexible and comfortable with frequent changes.
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment.
  • The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory.
  • Computer literacy required.

  • Currently the work days can include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday; Shift start and stop times are as follows 0645-1245, 0700-1300, 0730-1330, 0830-1430, 1330-1930, 1430-2030, 1515-2115, 0845-1445, 0815-1415, 930-1530, 0915-1515; Rest days are Saturday/Sunday, Sunday/Monday.
