About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Business Development Manager to join our dynamic Donor Relations & Field Operations team.
The Donor Relations & Field Operations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting plasma in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. In this role, you will be responsible for generating and identifying leads, building pipeline of potential donors, building relationships and ensuring the growth and maintenance of high quality, committed donor base. You will be responsible for community engagement and maintaining a good public image for the donation centre to ensure there is ongoing public support.
Formula for success
Developing and implementing a strong action plan supported by comprehensive data analysis and applying business development techniques based on interactions and results in the field to ensure that the collection and donor base goals are being achieved.
- Organizes and conducts information sessions/recruitment presentations to specific target groups, based on research into the community and its demographics.
- Responsible for finding and engaging with new donors through referrals, networking, and cold calling.
- Manages senior client relationships within assigned territory and works with centre manager on key initiatives to keep relationships active.
- Promotes and enhances a positive public image of the plasma donor centre within the community through public speaking and media engagement opportunities.
- Works closely with marketing and communications to develop a sales action plan to support business development and retention.
- Manages, mentors and directs donor centre staff on implementing sales strategies within the donor centre to exceed targets in assigned territory.
- Business Development Manager will be required to step in to support the centre manager during their absence.
- Builds a pipeline of potential donors, maintaining relationships, and ensuring the growth and maintenance of high quality, committed donor base.
- Work in conjunction with the centre manager to foster an exceptional donor experience.
While conducting in-community engagement sessions, the Business Development Manager will keep prospective and current donors appraised of any improvements or changes to the donor centre or eligibility criteria.
- Take an active role in the development and implementation of the donor experience training on site at the donor centre. This training will also be delivered to ambassadors/volunteers.
- Work closely with marketing and communications team to implement strategies to support the donor experience and increase the retention and frequency of donors.
Using your networking and social media skills, recruits and onboards ambassador/volunteers within the community who will support donor recruitment and retention.
- Host in community information sessions to acquire leads and referrals for interested ambassadors.
- Onboard and train ambassadors to support advocacy amongst their social networks.
- Maintain a sold base of ambassadors/champions to support in community engagement activities.
- Research patient groups and recipients to support advocacy within the community.
- Ensures effective and efficient use of financial and human resources.
Utilizing established change management processes along with your Continuous Improvement Skills, you will develop strategic plans for donor recruitment and retention in conjunction with the plasma donor centre manager while ensuring that there is a focus on financial and material resources.
- Ensures expenditures confirm with approved budget, justifying any variances and implementing corrective actions to address variances.
- Proposes and implements innovations and improvements for the effective and efficient utilization of resources.
- Asses resources needs, hire, train and oversee additional human resources and or volunteers.
- Willingness to test and learn new skills that will increase efficiency at the donor centre.
Desired education and skills
- Degree in marketing or business administration is preferred.
- 5+ years of sales management experience.
- A record of success closing opportunities and a strong desire to succeed.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; comfortable public speaking to various size audiences.
- Adaptable, flexible and open to change.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in planning and executing media interviews is preferred.
- Previous people management/supervisory experience is an asset.
