About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Analyst, Special Authorization to join our dynamic Plasma Protein & Related Products Formulary Program team.
Reporting to the Manager, Special Authorization, the Analyst, Special Authorization supports operational delivery of requests for plasma protein and related products (PPRP).
The Analyst, Special Authorization is responsible for diligent patient record keeping, and managing the end-to-end workflow of special authorization requests. The Analyst is responsible for technical aspects of information gathering, validating completeness, and ensuring requests align with formulary rules and documentation requirements. The Analyst works collaboratively with formulary pharmacists, who are responsible for clinical assessment and decision-making.
Formula for success
- Drawing on your strong analytical and organizational skills, you will manage the end-to-end operational workflow for Special Authorization requests, ensuring submissions are complete, accurate, compliant, and processed efficiently.
- Applying your knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and calculations, you will review and verify technical aspects of requests, including dosing, vial sizes and quantities, and follow up with healthcare providers when additional information or clarification is required.
- Using your understanding of drug formularies and healthcare processes, you will assess whether submissions meet applicable documentation and program requirements, support clinics with submission-related questions, and appropriately escalate clinical questions to formulary pharmacists.
- Applying your background in data analysis and process improvement, you will support operational reporting, ensure data quality, identify utilization and workload trends, and recommend workflow improvements to optimize program delivery.
- Leveraging your excellent organizational and communication skills, you will coordinate activities with healthcare providers and internal stakeholders, maintain program documentation, support operational meetings, and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving program efficiency, consistency, and stakeholder experience.
Desired education and skills
- Pharmacy technician licensure, as recognized by a Canadian pharmacy regulatory authority, strongly preferred, or a university degree in a relevant discipline with experience in a pharmacy or clinic environment.
- Previous experience in drug reimbursement, private payer/insurance, patient support programs, specialty pharmacy, or a similar medication access environment is considered an asset.
- A minimum of three years related experience.
- Experience working with operational data, including data validation, Excel-based analysis, reporting and identification of trends or data-quality issues.
- Proficiency with pharmaceutical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations. Ability to interpret physician's orders and prescriptions.
- Ability to work with a drug formulary and to explain formulary rules and policies.
- Understanding of the Canadian health system environment.
- Strong ability to communicate with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff in clinics and blood banks.
- Ability to analyze, simplify and communicate data from complex sources, including the ability to produce clear and concise documents and reports.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively manage time in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word is required.
- Experience with SAP is strongly preferred.
