Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-time Analyst - Business Systems II to join our dynamic IT External Customer Experience team. 

The IT External Customer Experience team is responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting all external-facing IT solutions and applications, while creating solutions that deliver exceptional experiences to our external users. 

In this role, you will collaborate with team members, business stakeholders, and delivery teams to address current business challenges and deliver value through well-structured initiatives. You will be responsible for identifying and completing complex tasks as part of overall projects, including requirements gathering and analysis (use cases, user stories, epics), iteration and project planning, release coordination, test case creation and execution, and problem management coordination and trending for existing business systems. 


This role also involves working closely with other departments, such as our Organ and Tissue Donation & Transplantation (OTDT) team, to understand business needs and ensure that IT solutions effectively support organizational goals, structure and other enabling services for new and existing business systems.  

 

Formula for success

  • Applying your skills in business systems analysis, you will assess stakeholder requirements, determine practical solutions, and plan system development initiatives. You will also contribute to the development and improvement of process, quality, and project standards, team practices, and industry developments. 
  • Leveraging your skills in facilitation, you will lead requirements gathering activities with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, including hosting user group workshops, conducting user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions, and applying a range of facilitation techniques to effectively elicit, document, and validate business needs. 
  • Using your skills in collaboration, you will work closely with business stakeholders throughout the project and product lifecycle to ensure successful delivery of IT solutions. 
  • Drawing on your skills in coordination, you will support business system development and enhancement activities, and contribute to the implementation of process, quality, and project standards to improve efficiency and team practices. 
  • Employing your skills in communication, you will maintain open and effective communication with developers, testers, and other teams to ensure requirements and priorities are clearly understood. 
  • Harnessing your skills in relationship management, you will build strong partnerships across the organization, working closely with the OTDT team and other stakeholders, and support the development of IT strategic and tactical plans aligned with business value streams. 
  • Demonstrating your skills in compliance and governance, you will ensure adherence to Canadian Blood Services’ IT policies, procedures, and regulatory standards in all activities. 

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Computer/Software Engineering. 
  • IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) certification is an asset. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ IT-related experience in business systems analysis, product management, product ownership, project management, scrum mastery, software development, systems analysis, or test execution. 
  • Digital health experience is an asset. 
  • Experience with client business processes (e.g., Finance, Healthcare, HR, Regulatory) and an aptitude for system design. 
  • Experience with tools such as Confluence, Jira, and SharePoint. 
  • Strong documentation skills, including use cases, user stories, business requirements, functional specifications, project plans, user acceptance testing plans and training or user guides. 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to articulate requirements to technical and non-technical subject matter experts. 
  • Exceptional problem analysis, planning, time management, organizational, and project management skills for implementing large-scale initiatives involving complex scope, budgets, or timelines.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, quarterly for in-person team meetings, and as required.
