Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
 

Canadian Blood Services, (CBS) is seeking a Temporary, Full-time Associate Director, Business Continuity to join our dynamic Enterprise Risk Management team.
 

Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Risk and Business Continuity Management, the Associate Director, Business Continuity provides professional leadership and coordination in the planning, management, development, and administration of the CBS’ Business Continuity Management (BCM) Program. The incumbent will liaise with and coordinate the activities of all internal and external stakeholders to ensure the availability, integration, and currency of the BCM program.
 

The Associate Director, Business Continuity will support all planning activities necessary to enable the organization to manage a crisis event and/or disruption as well as meet compliance requirements for business continuity planning. The position's primary goals will be to work with business areas to identify, document and test business contingencies to identify improvements and supporting recovery strategies. The Associate Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with various business management teams.


Formula for success
 

  • Using your strong organizational skills, manage the planning, implementation, ongoing program development and integration of Canadian Blood Services’ Business Continuity Management(BCM) Program including the appropriate governance materials (policy, and manual).
  • Leveraging your exceptional planning skills, develop and maintain the Canadian Blood Services incident management plan (i.e. command and control structure) at the national and local level.  Lead and facilitate periodic exercises at both the local and enterprise-wide level to assist in the validation of business continuity plans.
  • Utilizing your leadership skills, guide and direct the business, as necessary, to enable the organization to manage a crisis event and/or disruption, including coordinating the execution of business continuity plan and associated recovery activities on a national basis when they are activated
  • Harnessing your strong communication skills, drive BCM awareness and training across the organization by developing and delivering training materials, conducting awareness sessions, and promoting the importance of BCM within CBS, while ensuring compliance with industry best practices.


Desired education and skills
 

  • University degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution. A Master’s degree is an asset.
  • 7-10 years professional experience in business continuity management, crisis management and/or risk management with a strong focus on interdepartmental program development and delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of Emergency Management and Business Continuity.
  • Managerial experience in progressively more responsible positions providing public speaking, group facilitation, and management consultations.
  • Experience in supply chain operations, biological/pharmaceutical related work, and/or experience in health care industry are assets.
  • Sound knowledge of project management principles.
  • Ability to conduct business professionally and collaboratively at all levels of an organization from front-line staff to the executive management team and board of directors.
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Blood Services’ business processes, regulations, and quality environment is an asset.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret business needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Travel to CBS sites may be required once every 2 months.  This requirement is subject to change at Canadian Blood Services’ sole discretion.
