Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Associate Director, Portfolio and Performance to join our dynamic Strategic Performance team in our Medical Affairs (MA) division.
The Strategic Performance team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services through the provision of strategic planning and integration services for the Medical Affairs division. The team works closely with the Vice President and other senior leadership to represent the division using a broad range of planning, performance and communication vehicles.
In this role, you will work at senior levels of the division and organizationally, reporting to the Director, Strategy Planning, and Integration Management. You will lead a team of strategy and project management professionals and work collaboratively with Medical Affairs leadership and other national senior leaders to oversee the divisional portfolio of projects as well as execute divisional strategies and associated programs within the accountability of the Vice President, Medical Affairs.
Formula for success
- You will support the Director, Strategy Planning and Integration and the Vice President of Medical Affairs in the area of issue management and executive committee support, including issues identification, analyses and development of recommendations.
- Drawing on your continuous growth mindset and flexibility to quickly adapt, you will routinely review strategy execution progress to identify opportunities to proactively address any emerging gaps in performance. Develop proposals and/or business cases to address gaps, as needed.
- Drawing on your strategy design experience, you will provide guidance to team members in the development of multi-year business strategies for MA-led programs.
- Harnessing your strong organizational skills to manage diverse priorities, you will analyze issues and opportunities, prepare supporting documentation, such as white papers, environmental scans, proposals and business cases to outline options and recommendations. Ensure varying opinions are included in assessments.
- Focusing on your proven experience synthesizing complex information, you will lead the development of corporate performance reports (e.g., corporate strategy reports, risk reports, operational reports, reports to the Board of Directors and others as required).
- Utilizing your experience in portfolio management, you will ensure the corporate strategy is converted into divisional goals, performance measures, and initiatives.
- Leveraging your expertise in portfolio management and organizational capability development, you will establish a divisional portfolio management capability for Medical Affairs, including development of tools, templates, processes and/or training to enable functional leaders to build and maintain multi-year portfolio roadmaps aligned to corporate strategy.
- Acting as the Medical Affairs point of contact for enterprise portfolio partners (e.g., IT, Corporate Strategy, EPMO, Finance), you will build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment, integration and transparency of MA priorities and resource requirements.
- Representing Medical Affairs on select corporate governance and portfolio committees, you will ensure divisional priorities have appropriate corporate visibility, are aligned with enterprise direction, and are positioned effectively in corporate planning and investment discussions.
- Drawing on your ability to lead and work collaboratively across a diverse team, you will provide strong and effective leadership to direct reports and provide timely feedback on the performance of team members.
Desired education and skills
- University degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or equivalent, is required. A master’s degree will be considered an asset.
- Extensive leadership and management experience.
- At least 10 years’ experience working with multiple stakeholders and developing and fostering effective professional relationships.
- Significant experience in strategy development.
- Understanding, knowledge of and experience with the complexities of blood and transfusion services.
- Experience in providing high-level written and oral presentations and reports to senior management, including experience working with senior-level audiences.
- Successful track record in driving performance improvement and delivering tangible results.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
