About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Associate Director, Project and Program Delivery to join our dynamic Enterprise Program Management Office. The work of an Associate Director, Project and Program Delivery is integral to Canadian Blood Services’ role as Canada’s Lifeline.
In this role, you will lead a series of project and program management and strategic planning activities aligned to corporate funding cycles and delivery of high visibility projects or programs for the organization.
These responsibilities include:
- Deliver ePMO led projects and provide project and program management oversight and support for those projects.
- Contribute to the enterprise portfolio management / reporting process for all corporate priority projects including ePMO projects and escalate issues requiring executive attention.
- Provide leadership to enterprise projects coordinated through process management and assure compliance to all corporate portfolio reporting requirements.
- Lead and support the execution of select projects in the portfolio, by ensuring collaboration and integration between divisions.
Key responsibilities include:
Project and Program Leadership
- Leverage extensive experience to oversee the management of a variety of projects and/or programs and managing a team of professionals.
- Oversee the development of proposals and business cases, as required.
- Intervene in highly sensitive or complex stakeholder communications, remove barriers, and facilitate change management.
- Regularly report to and facilitate discussion at the senior and executive levels.
Influencing and Negotiating
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively, based on facts, logic, trust and a strong understanding of the interests and opinions of others.
- Motivate and coach staff for high performance and acts with transparency, promoting a problem-solving mindset and collaborative culture.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and discussions; manage high levels of conflict; and lead and/or collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Teamwork and Communication
- Display empathy and has the advanced soft skills required to lead and motivate others to achieve deliverables, where priorities and expectations may be in conflict at times.
Business Acumen
- Apply seasoned expertise of risk management to oversee the identification, monitoring and mitigation of substantial risks, with implications beyond the project/program.
- Apply advanced knowledge of financial literacy and budget management to manage substantial project/program budget(s).
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for recruitment, motivation, and development of a team of Project Management professionals.
- Apply advanced management experience to recruit and manage team performance, and provide trusted leadership, coaching and development of staff or contracted resources.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Use seasoned experience and knowledge to analyze highly complex problems, interpret business needs, and develop integrated, innovative solutions. Often requires deeper investigation of conflicting information and novel thinking to establish solutions.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or science or equivalent.
- A minimum of 10 years managing multiple projects/programs with large teams, budgets, and multiple stakeholders at an executive level.
- Experience building teams, managing, and coaching other project managers or contracted resources and or employees is required.
- Proven ability to manage a significant project portfolio for a large organization.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Completed training in project/program management such as PRINCE2, PMP, Agile Scrum Master, or demonstrated experience.
- Project Management certification is an asset such as PMP or PRINCE2.
- Experience managing new product or process introduction in the regulated environment, is an asset.
- Experience managing and implementing process change within a unionized workforce environment, is an asset.
- Experience developing and maintaining project documents and presenting in an executive setting.
- Experience in Agile teams is an asset.
- Proficiency with related software tools including Microsoft project professional, MSPO is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, influencing and negotiation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial and operational planning.
