Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About The Role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-time Associate Director - Quality Management Processes to join our dynamic Quality and Regulatory Affairs Team. The work of the Associate Director, Quality Management Processes is integral to Canadian Blood Services’ role as Canada’s Lifeline.  
  

As a member of Canadian Blood Services (CBS) Quality and Regulatory Affairs division, the Associate Director - Quality Management Processes advances the mission, vision, values and objectives of CBS in the delivery of products, processes and services that meet or exceed customers’ expectations in accordance with CBS’ Management System and all legislative and regulatory requirements. 

  

In this role, you will be responsible for directing and overseeing the design, development, and continuous improvement of Canadian Blood Services’ quality management processes in accordance with regulatory requirements, applicable standards and business requirements across all products and services. These centrally designed quality management processes enable CBS to deliver high quality and safe products and services, achieve business excellence, and ensure that CBS delivers on the objectives and strategy defined by the executive management team.  

  

You will oversee and direct the analysis of process requirements to ensure that critical-to-quality requirements are selected, oversee the design and development of quality processes (including the simulation and testing prior to installation), ensure effective monitoring of processes performance, and recommend process improvements. 

  

You will develop and maintain strong, positive and effective working relationships with members of other divisions to build understanding and alignment related to the quality management system.  

  

This role reports into the Director - Quality Management System.  


Formula for success

  • Team Management: Directs and oversees the work of the Quality Management Process team. 
  • Quality Management Process Analysis: Directs and oversees the analysis of process requirements for input into process design.  
  • Process Design: Directs and oversees the detailed design of the processes that comprise the quality management system to meet regulatory requirements and applicable standards across all products and services.  Also embeds business requirements into the design of processes.  
  • Process Development: Directs and oversees the detailed design of processes, procedures, tools, training material, performance metrics, etc.  
  • Process Implementation: Works with the project management team members to provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure effective implementation of processes. 
  • Process Performance: Coordinates and oversees performance monitoring of quality management processes. 
  • Process Design Leadership: Leads the sharing and implementation of best process management practices across CBS and promotes consistency in the application of process design methodologies across the organization. 
  • Process Improvement: Identifies areas for potential process improvement, gathering the necessary evidence and working with the quality management system group to prioritize these to ensure required actions are taken by management to strengthen the process and the overall system. 
  • Team Development: Builds competence in the organization in systems thinking, quality management, quality management processes, process management, process improvement and good practices.  
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Builds and sustains collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to promote the development of CBS’ quality management processes. 
  • Quality Initiatives: Leads and participates in quality and continuous improvement initiatives related to quality management processes. 
  • Alignment With Corporate Policies: Performs work in accordance with the provisions of all applicable quality, environmental, occupational health and safety, regulatory, legislative, and corporate policies or requirements. 
  • Performs other related duties as required. 

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-Secondary education in a relevant discipline is required; a university Degree in Engineering or Life Science is strongly preferred. 
  • Training in quality management.  
  • Training in ISO certification and process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six sigma is an asset. 
  • Ten years of demonstrated expertise in quality management in manufacturing as gained through managerial involvement or position in a pharmaceutical or other manufacturing sector characterized by a stringent regulatory environment. 
  • Extensive quality experience: quality management system, validation, auditing, quality engineering, process management or CAPA. 
  • Implementation of quality management system or processes is an asset. 
  • Advanced organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Advanced expertise in quality management system, process analysis and process design. 
  • Ability to work in a challenging and demanding environment and ability to be patient with ambiguity. 
  • Commitment to promoting a team environment. 
  • Ability to assess maturity levels at both the system and process management levels.  
  • Proven project management skills. 
  • Ability to work with others. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required for the development of strategies and plans.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/days of the week.
  • Travel requirement – occasional travel across CBS sites, 3-5 trips a year will be required.
