Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role 

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a temporary full-time Business Systems Analyst I to join our dynamic  Internal Customer Experience Blood Management Solutions team.


The Internal Customer Experience team is responsible for managing the delivery and operation of IT services related to employee experience and productivity, blood operations, data & analytics and optimization, making IT more effective, reliable and consistent.


In this role you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Business Systems Analysts of the team to act as the interface between the clients or project team and the National Systems Solutions group as well as other IT Teams. You will also participate in the planning, development/acquisition, implementation and maintenance of business systems.
You will be assigned detailed tasks as part of the project or release, these tasks include, but are not limited to, requirements (use case) gathering/analysis, project plan and work schedule creation/management, project and release coordination/management, test case creation/execution, problem management coordination/trending for existing business systems, resource capacity planning and overall liaison between the business and National Systems Solutions. The interface role also involves coordinating between other IT departments to complete the infrastructure and other enabling services for new and existing business systems.

Formula for success
 

  • Leveraging your expertise in task management, you will provide input through detailed, assigned tasks to help determine the priority of program initiatives in consultation with the client group and senior team members.
  • Drawing on your ability to build relationships, you will participate in developing strong client relationships, as well as assisting in the creation of IT strategic and tactical plans aligned with the client’s business needs.
  • Utilizing your analytical skills, you will participate in assessing client requirements and, through detailed tasks, aid in determining potential solutions while helping to plan system development.
  • Applying your technical knowledge, you will assist in delivering business system development and enhancement activities to improve overall system functionality.
  • By contributing your attention to detail, you will help clients with testing, as well as supporting the development of user documentation and training materials.
  • Harnessing your knowledge of industry standards, you will participate in the research and development of various process, quality, and project standards, along with improving process efficiency, team practices, and staying current with industry trends.
  • Following established protocols, you will, under direction, adhere to project management, technology, and documentation standards and methodologies for IT projects, ensuring alignment with best practices.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Software Programming, Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Business, or a related field such as Healthcare Informatics or Medical Technology.
  • Three to five years of IT experience as a project manager, systems analyst, business systems analyst or experience in the client business processes to be supported (e.g. Blood Management - Collections to Distribution) with an aptitude for system design.
  • Ability to conduct business professionally and develop strong working relationships with clients and co-workers.
  • Proven ability to learn in a fast-paced, dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Ability to articulate requirements to IT subject matter experts.
  • Proven ability to write test scripts aimed at proving that the system requirements have been met.
  • Good problem analysis, planning and organizational skills. As well as good documentation skills (e.g. use cases, business requirements, functional requirements, and test scripts).

What you can expect  

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.  
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.   
  • Travel may be expected to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Road, or to other Canadian Blood Services locations within Canada.
