The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Buyer/Planner to join our dynamic Procurement team.
The Procurement team is responsible for providing strategic procurement support to Canadian Blood Services through the development of requests for proposal, contract negotiations and supplier qualifications for critical supplies and services. The team works to continuously enhance our procurement policies and procedures and work diligently to help manage our relationships with our suppliers.
In this role, you will have a dedicated portfolio where you will analyze, monitor, and manage inventory levels for medical supplies at Canadian Blood Services sites. You will also provide procurement services for the acquisition of general supplies, using Material Requirement Planning in SAP for medical supplies, and make recommendations for changes to inventory levels at sites in coordination with business owners.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your strong interpersonal and communication skills, you will liaise with medical supply business owners to establish quantities and shipping schedules for medical supplies based on forecasts and supplier lead times.
- Utilizing your excellent attention to detail, you will proactively monitor inventory levels and MRP output to ensure accuracy, completeness, and efficient management of inventory levels to reduce the financial risk of obsolescence.
- Drawing on your excellent accuracy and prioritization skills, you will interpret and analyze requirements and specifications of clients, including reviewing requisition documents, evaluating operational issues and policies, systems data, and standards. Initiates and processes requests.
- Focusing on your strong organizational skills, you will assess and compare quotations to ensure the right product is purchased from the right company, at the right price and quality along with the supplier’s ability to deliver on time.
- Utilizing your effective problem-solving skills, you will Investigate and resolve issues from Head Office departments and Canadian Blood Services sites on defective goods, poor service and/or late deliveries.
- Concentrating on your ability to lead and work collaboratively across diverse teams, you will review discrepancies, and through discussions with supplier and requisitioner, determine the best solution.
- Using your continuous growth mindset, you will analyze trends and make recommendations for improvements to process. As part of the team, establish and implement improved techniques and methods of procurement activities for client departments.
- Drawing on your analytical skills, you will collect and interpret data on assigned procurement and supply activities. Produce documentation in support of various service activities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Desired education and skills
- Completion of a post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Supply Chain Management or Materials Management.
- Completion of APICS syllabus and looking towards obtaining CPIM designation, would be considered an asset.
- Three to four years of job-related experience in the procurement field.
- Two to three years of SAP experience both from a Material Management standpoint and a Financial, Controlling standpoint.
- Experience with computer systems is essential. Experience with SAP, Excel and MS Word are a definite asset.
- GMP training and/or experience would be an asset.
- Strong understanding of supply management concepts.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
