Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Category Manager to join our dynamic Procurement team.

The Category Manager is responsible for strategic sourcing supporting a key business area or spend category, such as Medical Equipment & Supplies, Laboratory Testing, Pharmaceutical, IT, Professional Services, Logistics, or Facilities. This involves all aspects of the strategic sourcing process including developing a high level of knowledge of current state and possible evolution of assigned commodity, working with internal clients to develop RFP specifications that will bring the best options and value to Canadian Blood Services, managing RFP process, and leading cross functional negotiations with suppliers.


The Category Manager will also develop and monitor compliance with procurement policies and procedures, including those with respect to managing the relationship with the supplier.  The Category Manager creates compiles and files all documentation needed in keeping with Canadian Blood Services records management policies.

Formula for success

 

  • Applying your expertise in requests for proposals/quotations and contract negotiations, you will drive successful procurement outcomes that meet Canadian Blood Services' business objectives.
  • Leveraging your experience in contract and supplier management, you will ensure Canadian Blood Services' requirements are consistently met and foster strong, long-term supplier partnerships.
  • Working with your internal business partners, you will align procurement support to operational and strategic plans.
  • Leveraging your skills in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), you will participate in SRM activities, such as evaluating supplier performance, monitoring metrics and trends, and recommending actions to strengthen supplier performance and relationships.
  • Drawing on your knowledge of supply chain management, you will proactively manage and mitigate supply chain risks to prevent disruptions and maintain continuous operations. You will participate in the Canadian Blood Services Business Essential Supplies (BES) Supply Risk management program.
  • Adhering to your understanding of health and safety protocols, you will perform work in full compliance with Canadian Blood Services' Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. 

Desired education and skills

 

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a college diploma in Business Administration or Material Management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related, progressive experience in complex procurement negotiations.
  • Procurement experience specialized in IT and digital transformation is a definite asset.
  • Certified Supply Chain Management Professional designation, or equivalent, is a definite asset. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred), Excel and MS Word are definite assets. 
  • Experience working with selection committee to source goods and services. 
  • Proven techniques in procurement strategy development, contract management, negotiating, consulting, cost-benefit analysis, market research and managing the Request for Proposal Process.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Project management skills will be considered an asset.

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, 7.5 hours a day.
