About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time Systems Configuration and Deployment, Student to join our dynamic IT Technology Delivery team in Ottawa.


The IT Technology Delivery team scope is to develop and deliver innovative solutions and services that will increase the agility of Canadian Blood Services to respond to emerging business needs. 


In this role, you will join the Technology Delivery team to support IT deliverables for the Canadian Blood Services Plasma and Whole Blood Facilities Program. You will be involved in other Technology Delivery projects and programs as needed, such as the National Facilities Redevelopment Program in Regina and Edmonton operational sites, the relocation and opening of new clinics in Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Connected Mobile Donor Centre (CMDC), and the new Blood Shakers project.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your skills in technology deployment and support, you will assist in configuring and deploying IT equipment for the Canadian Blood Services Plasma and Whole Blood expansion program and other relevant initiatives.
  • Utilizing your expertise in device configuration and testing, you will ensure the smooth operation of IT devices within the system.
  • Harnessing your customer service abilities, you will deliver exceptional support to Plasma and whole blood clinics via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Employing your skills in on-site support, you will be available to assist during mobile and permanent collection events whenever necessary.
  • Applying your troubleshooting expertise and Root Cause Analysis skills, you will investigate and resolve customer issues effectively.
  • Collaborating with OS business analysts, programmer/analysts, and IT Services, you will contribute to new system development initiatives alongside OS customers.
  • Sharing your insights into hardware and software standards, system architecture, and industry advancements, you will offer guidance and advice to IT colleagues.


Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a related computer science degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience in a related IT role is an asset and experience with Microsoft Windows, OS install/imaging and configuration, including Office 365 SharePoint, Excel, Word, MS Access.  
  • Experience on multiple windows hardware platforms Laptops, PC Minis, Tablets and PDAs. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Networking, TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting and working knowledge of Wi-Fi and Cellular internet technology.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting ability and excellent customer service skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers/users and project team members.

What you can expect  

  • This is a fully onsite role located at 2540 Lancaster Road, Ottawa, Ontario.
  • You may be required occasionally to work shift work to cover the national operational business hours which are 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. 
  • This position may require occasional travel outside the Ottawa region, approximately once a month for 3-4 days, to provide on-site IT deployment and support.
