Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Content Lead to join our dynamic Integrated Marketing team. 

 

If you’re a seasoned writer with a strong background in advertising, marketing and communications and you know how to shape ideas into sharp, audience-first messaging, this role is for you.

Reporting to the Manager, Creative Studio, you’re not just a writer; you’re a strategic thinker and creative force. Whether it’s a 15-second ad, a campaign concept, a social caption or a long-form feature, you bring clarity, purpose and emotion to every word.

As Content Lead, you’ll guide the voice and tone of our marketing efforts across platforms, ensuring everything we put into the world is clear, compelling and rooted in purpose. From national campaigns to internal initiatives, your writing will help drive action, build trust and elevate our brand. You’ll also provide leadership and mentorship to our writing team, helping foster a high standard of creative excellence and collaboration.

You are a strategic content lead with:

  • Strong copywriting skills for ads and campaigns.
  • Ability to synthesize complex ideas into concise, emotional and compelling messages.
  • Proficiency in performance-driven writing, including SEO and conversion-focused content.
  • Strength in both long-form and short-form writing.
  • Fluency in platform-specific content for social (knows how to write for the medium and its audience).
  • Comfort in story structure and reviewing multimedia scripts/storyboards.
  • A clear understanding of how copy supports and enhances design. You work closely with the Creative Lead to deliver cohesive, unified and intentional content.
  • A balance of strategic thinking + hands-on execution.
  • Skill in building strategic editorial calendar aligned with business and campaign goals.
  • Experience collaborating across teams to plan content themes, formats, and timelines.

  • Leveraging your exceptional copywriting skills, you will craft compelling, brand-aligned marketing content that inspires action, drives performance and connects with diverse audiences. Your work will support Canadian Blood Services’ goals and follow our brand platform and guidelines.
  • Drawing from your strategic mindset and collaborative spirit, you will partner with subject matter experts, marketing strategists and cross-functional teams to distill complex ideas into accessible and emotionally resonant messaging across channels such as social, digital ads, internal campaigns and multimedia scripts.
  • You will be accountable for elevating the impact of our programs and services through persuasive content that is clear, cohesive and optimized for performance across platforms. Your work will also help protect and evolve Canadian Blood Services’ voice and brand reputation.
  • With a strong foundation in SEO and performance-based content strategy, you will apply best practices to ensure each piece has purpose, resonates with the intended audience and delivers measurable results.
  • You have a great understanding of how words and visuals work together and a sharp eye for how copy lives within design. You shape words that not only tell the story but elevate the layout, working closely with the Creative Lead to ensure every word supports and strengthens the overall creative vision.
  • As a hands-on leader, you will foster a high-performing content team by providing clear direction, mentorship and collaborative energy. You will champion creativity while maintaining consistent quality, timely delivery and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Tapping into your editorial expertise, you will lead the content review process by offering insightful feedback and final approvals across diverse formats. This includes reviewing scripts, shaping multimedia narratives and ensuring brand voice and tone are consistent throughout.
  • You will build strong, trusted relationships across the organization and help create a supportive content hub that can be used across different needs. Your approach will reflect our values of curiosity, compassion and excellence.
  • You will actively support content planning and calendar development across the team by collaborating with internal partners, anticipating upcoming needs and ensuring content is delivered on time and aligned with strategy.
  • With an analytical and data-savvy mindset, you will write content designed to perform, measuring success through through KPIs, A/B testing and platform metrics. You will translate insights into action, continuously refining content to drive stronger outcomes.
  • You excel in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility and strong cross-functional communication skills to navigate collaborations with stakeholders beyond the creative team.

Desired education and skills

 

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is essential, preferably in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Marketing.
  • Minimum five (5) years of Marketing communications-related experience; minimum of three (3) years' experience.
  • Healthcare and/or biopharma or agency experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling content across multiple formats, with a sharp eye for storytelling, brand voice and audience impact.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office apps and Adobe Acrobat.

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40 % of the time/days of the week.
  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday days, 37.5 hours a week, 7.5 hours a day.
  • Travel requirements - travel may be required for training purposes.
