Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Digital Product Designer to join our dynamic Integrated Marketing team. 

This role sits within the Digital Experience team (part of the Donor Experience and Corporate Reputation division) and reports to the Manager, Digital Experience Delivery. The Designer leads user interface design and design system evolution for Canadian Blood Services' (CBS’s) digital donor ecosystem, including the website, donor portal, mobile app, campaign landing pages, interactive experiences and email templates.

In this role, you will work closely with creative design, content, development, and project management peers to create scalable digital experiences that reflect Canadian Blood Services' brand, accessibility, and donor engagement goals.  This role also supports UX design tasks - including wireframes and user flows.

Formula for success

 

  • Harnessing your digital skills,  you will design accessible, responsive interfaces for web, apps, landing pages, and email.
  • Create modular templates and full-page layouts that scale across CBS platforms.
  • Deliver polished visuals that meet CBS brand, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness standards.
  • Bring designs to life with motion, interaction states, and seamless developer handoff.
  • Maintain and evolve the CBS design system, building scalable patterns, components, and tokens.
  • Champion governance and best practices for naming, structure, and usage guidelines.
  • Leveraging your excellent interpersonal skills, you will collaborate across teams—strategy, UX, content, analytics, IT, and product—to optimize digital journeys.
  • Support UX tasks like wireframes, user flows, and journey mapping.
  • Drawing from your creative side, you will incorporate research insights to create intuitive, user-focused experiences.
  • Advocate for usability and inclusive design, driving adoption and continuous improvement.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary education in digital design, HCI, visual communication, or a related discipline or a combination of relevant skills and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in UI design, with demonstrated experience in responsive design across devices and platforms.
  • Advanced experience in Figma (including components, variables, tokens, libraries).
  • Pratical knowledge of front-end development principles (HTML/CSS/JS) for design-to-dev collaboration.
  • Familiarity with email template design, landing page frameworks, and digital campaign assets.
  • Experience in accecssibility design and testing (e.g., WCAG, AODA).
  • Exposure to UX workflows including wireframing and user flows.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present and defend design decisions.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, with attention to detail.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/ 2 days of the week.
  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, 7.5 hours a day.
