Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at one of our Canadian Blood Services' production centres and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About The Role:
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Director, Quality Assurance (Fresh Blood Operations) to join our dynamic Quality & Regulatory Affairs division.
The Director, Quality Assurance (Fresh Blood Operations) provides strategic leadership and ethical oversight for quality programs across all CBS sites. Specifically focusing on Fresh Blood Operations, the Director manages day-to-day quality leadership for collections, production, distribution, and logistics. This role drives the organization’s Quality by Design (QbD) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives while collaborating closely with Medical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Management Systems (QMS) teams to ensure seamless compliance and operational excellence.
Formula for success:
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the Quality Assurance program is well‑managed, compliant, continuously improved, aligned with corporate objectives, and supported through effective performance management, communication, and guidance across all QA functions.
- Delivers organization‑wide quality assurance support by building strong stakeholder relationships, communicating QA expectations, and ensuring all divisions receive the guidance, tools and information needed to effectively implement QA policies and procedures.
- Oversees comprehensive staff management by recruiting, training, coaching and evaluating QA personnel while ensuring ongoing compliance with all quality, regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Leads and supports corporate and QA&RA initiatives by guiding staff on QA requirements, contributing to continuous improvement efforts, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, including presenting key quality matters to senior management.
- Prepares, as required, department budgets and monitors expenditures to demonstrate continuous improvement in departmental efficiencies and to ensure financial targets are achieved.
- May serve as an alternate for the Vice-President, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs in the absence of the incumbent.
Desired education & skills:
- A University Degree in Life Science from a recognized academic institution, preferably at the graduate level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive managerial experience in the operations or quality field of a pharmaceutical or other Health Canada regulated industry and the blood related industry.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated expertise in quality assurance or quality compliance gained through managerial involvement or position in a health care, pharmaceutical or other manufacturing sector characterized by a stringent regulatory environment.
- Thorough understanding of concepts and principles of Quality System and Quality Assurance.
- Thorough understanding of the application of Good Manufacturing Practices as regulated by Health Canada and the United States Food and Drug Administration.
- Demonstrates advanced interpersonal and negotiation capabilities to effectively influence and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Exhibits strong analytical, troubleshooting and investigative proficiency in resolving complex quality and operational issues.
- Applies robust risk management expertise to identify, assess and mitigate organizational risks.
