Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site (Ottawa/Toronto/Dartmouth) and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role:

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a temporary full-time Director, Strategy & Integration (three‑year term) to join our dynamic Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) division. In this pivotal leadership role, you will help ensure FCS operational readiness and advance the technologies and processes that underpin our mission as Canada’s Biological Lifeline.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Strategy and Integration serves as a vital bridge within the FCS division. The primary focus of this leadership role is to unify various departmental initiatives and ensure that day-to-day operations align with the organization's overarching strategic priorities. By facilitating the annual planning process and establishing clear goals, budgets, and risk management frameworks, the Director ensures the division remains both accountable and focused on high-level objectives.

Beyond planning, the role acts as a central hub for organizational collaboration, representing FCS in multi-functional projects and working closely with other divisional leaders. A significant portion of the mandate involves driving efficiency through the FCS technology roadmap and business process automation, which requires a strong partnership with the Information Technology team.

Ultimately, the position is designed to integrate strategies across the FCS landscape to create a streamlined, tech-enabled, and policy-compliant corporate environment.

 

Formula for success:

  • Strategic Planning: Leads the development, execution, and monitoring of comprehensive, forward-looking plans for the Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) division.
  • Financial & Talent Management: Facilitates divisional budgeting, long-term financial planning, and talent roadmaps including learning and development programs.
  • Corporate Alignment: Collaborates across all divisions to execute corporate strategies and may represent FCS on review boards and steering committees.
  • Roadmap Leadership: Creates and maintains a divisional roadmap designed to inspire direction, foster personnel development, and enable organizational change.
  • Execution Oversight: Drives the formulation of implementation plans for transformation initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and the prompt escalation of major issues.
  • Process Optimization: Partners with divisional directors to improve organizational efficiency by simplifying workflows and clarifying business processes.
  • Performance Tracking: Manages divisional performance through the creation of scorecards, business objectives, and a comprehensive divisional risk register.
  • Technology & AI Integration: Supports enterprise-wide data and AI strategies, representing FCS interests in digital transformation and governance initiatives.

Desired Education and Skills:

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution.
  • CPA designation or an MBA with strong experience in finance is considered an asset.
  • Equivalent experience managing a similar function would be considered an alternative.
  • Six years of related, progressive management experience at a senior level.
  • Ten years of related, progressive management experience within a health care and/or financial environment.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operational planning and risk management
  • Knowledge of process optimization, technology, data governance and data and analytics an asset.


An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
