Somewhere in Canada there’s a life you can save.

Be part of a dynamic, collaborative and caring organization committed to saving and improving the lives of Canadians. Thousands of Canadians depend on us every day for reliable access to blood, plasma, stem cells and organs and tissues.

Join Canada’s Lifeline and make a meaningful difference every day.

Founded in 1998, Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. Regulated by Health Canada and primarily funded by the provincial and territorial Ministries of Health, CBS provides lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation for Canadian patients, and safeguards Canada's systems of life essentials in blood, plasma, stem cells, and organs and tissues. Together, with donors, recipients, employees, health partners and volunteers, CBS is Canada’s lifeline.

With more than 3,600 employees across 36 sites in Canada, CBS is now looking for a new Director Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to lead the development and implementation of the DEI Strategy and Action Plan. Reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer, the Director Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for all corporate activities intended to further integrate the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and Indigenization within all aspects of Canadian Blood Services.

In this newly created position, the Director DEI will develop initiatives to advance a DEI Strategy and Action Plan and, in doing so, achieve the measurable outcomes for diversity, equity and inclusion it contains. The Director DEI will work collaboratively with all divisions of Canadian Blood Services to create processes and advance initiatives to identify and remove systemic barriers within the organization, its programs, and operations. As a key leader of Canadian Blood Services’ DEI strategy, the Director will provide vision, leadership, and counsel on matters of diversity, equity, indigenization, and inclusion; and collaborate across functions to create a welcoming and respectful environment embracing anti-oppressive practice as a core organizational competency and promote a culture of inclusion and equity.

As the ideal candidate, you bring relevant credentials along with senior leadership experience managing large-scale diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. With an undergraduate degree and 10+ years of progressive, related experience, including organizational leadership, policy development, strategy definition, and experience leading large-scale change within the DEI/Indigenization field. You are a self-starter, collaborative leader, who takes a hands-on approach while working closely and effectively with colleagues and both internal and external stakeholders. Forward looking and progressive, you have successfully managed complex change initiatives and engaged an organization at all levels to adopt more inclusive systems, processes, and culture. Data-driven and outcomes-oriented, you bring a practical, pragmatic approach to effecting true organizational change.

If this role resonates with you, we encourage you to apply! This could be your next step towards a meaningful and inspiring career. Come to work each day knowing that you save lives.

Applications are encouraged and should be submitted online using this direct link ODGERS BERNDTSON, we will not be accepting applications through our Canadian Blood Services website at this time.

We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only those considered for an interview will be contacted.

Applicants who require accommodation should discuss their needs with us.

Canadian Blood Services is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 and all applicable provincial accessibility standards, upon request, accommodation will be provided by both Odgers Berndtson and Canadian Blood Services throughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.

Diversity and inclusion play a vital role in ensuring health equity for patients across Canada. We are committed to reflecting Canada’s population in our organization and fostering an environment where all employees can be their authentic selves, with equal opportunities to succeed and contribute.

To protect the health and safety of its employees, all Canadian Blood Services’ employees are required to be fully vaccinated (COVID-19 vaccine doses as approved by Health Canada), subject to any medical or other human rights grounds. Persons who have been vaccinated outside of Canada must contact their local Public Health Unit in order to obtain a vaccine equivalency certificate.
