About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a temporary, full-time, Financial Analyst to join our dynamic Financial Planning & Analysis team.
As a key member of the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team, you will guide Canadian Blood Services (CBS) to optimize its cost structure and drive sustainable financial decisions. You'll provide strategic financial leadership, delivering timely insights, advice, and services like budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting to help achieve business objectives. You are the trusted point person for all financial analysis, especially for cost and operational analysis.
Formula for Success
- Develop a thorough understanding of the assigned client group's overall business, including its strategy, operations, resource requirements (staffing, supplies, contracts), and functional accountabilities to effectively partner with leaders and provide financial advice.
- Serve as an advanced financial business partner, providing expert guidance, support, and strategic advice to business leaders across all aspects of financial management—including complex operating and capital budgeting, forecasting total resource requirements, tracking progress against budgets, identifying deviations and corrective measures, preparing management reports, proactively identifying efficiency opportunities, and conducting preliminary costing analysis for collective bargaining and contract negotiations; additionally, liaise with external auditors for year-end support.
- Manage daily financial activities to ensure compliance with guidelines and drive cost-saving opportunities by partnering with business leaders to identify efficiencies, improving accounting processes and data integrity, managing cost structures in SAP, allocating shared costs, preparing journal entries, monitoring vendor contracts, and reconciling budgeted Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) positions and funds.
- Provide ongoing training and mentoring to business leaders and staff on budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and general financial issues, including presenting on key financial processes, accounting practices, and the meaning and tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enhance financial performance and knowledge.
- Lead continuous process improvement by conducting complex business process analysis, collaborating on operational efficiency reviews, and playing a key role in identifying, establishing, and maintaining financial and non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); design effective metrics, establish benchmarks, conduct trend analysis, and collaborate on costing studies to measure, compare, and communicate program progress, efficiency, and cost behavior.
- Manage advanced financial reporting and special analyses, ensuring timely and customized delivery of ad-hoc financial information requests from the CFO, Executive Management Team, consultants, and Board committees, while contributing financial forecasts to the formulation of the Corporate Plan.
- Ensure the integrity of the financial system and regulatory compliance by reconciling financial records, maintaining SAP accuracy, enforcing adherence to internal policies and external standards (GAAP, legislation, collective agreements), identifying and rectifying non-compliance, implementing process improvements, and providing guidance on complex accounting issues to junior staff.
Desired Education and Skills
- A Canadian CPA designation, or has a comparable accounting or finance designation and is actively enrolled in a Canadian CPA program.
- Over 5 years relevant experience.
- Understanding and experience in the use of SAP (or an equivalent ERP application) is required. Proficiency in FI – Financial Accounting, CO – Management Accounting and
Controlling, MM – Materials Management, WM – Warehouse Management SAP Module (or an equivalent ERP application) is required.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
