About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Laboratory Assistant - Production to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations East team. 


The Supply Chain Operations East team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing technical expertise to Eastern Ontario Supply Chain and to hospital customers in the management and use of blood and blood products.  In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting and maintaining the laboratory and all laboratory equipment.

Formula for success


  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience in laboratory functions, you will be receiving, assessing and producing whole blood, apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components.
  • Utilizing your knowledge and understanding of blood component production, you will be assisting the laboratory manager in the development and evaluation of procedures.
  • Applying your ability to be proactive and ensure excellence, you will be performing routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality of blood products.
  • Leveraging your excellent organizational skills, you will be involved in the maintenance of appropriate documentation and records related to inventory in compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions.

Desired education and skills


  • Completion of secondary education and minimum 1 year laboratory work experience or an equivalent combination.  BSc or College Diploma would be considered an asset.
  • Technical skills including MS Office, and relevant computer skills may be required.
  • Must have good oral and written communications skills.

  • Shifts/hours - must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
