About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Laboratory Assistant- Stem Cells Manufacturing to join our dynamic Stem Cells team. 

 

The Stem Cells team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services ensuring the safe, efficient processing and handling of stem cell and cord blood units. This team plays a vital role in improving access to stem cells for patients in need of lifesaving transplants. In this role, you will perform important functions to support laboratory operations and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to follow standard operating procedures are key to your success in this role.

Formula for success

•    Prepare, process, and/or modify cord blood products, ensuring proper storage and inventory of cord blood units.
•    Receive and fulfill orders for research cord blood products, ensuring compliance with all relevant Standard Operating Procedures.
•    Package and prepare cord blood shipments for distribution.
•    Perform data entry and tracking in the SCNSS (Stem Cell National Systems Solution) IT system.
•    Conduct cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies to support operational efficiency and compliance.
•    Assist with laboratory activities under supervision, including the shipping of cord and maternal cord samples and data entry.

Desired education and skills

•    Completion of bachelor’s degree in the relevant  field and at least one year of laboratory work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Experience in working with processing  stem cells, pharmaceutical, or biologics manufacturing is a strong asset.
•    Proficiency in basic computer applications; relevant technical system experience is an asset.
•    Ability to acquire and apply technical laboratory skills with accuracy.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•    Availability to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

What you can expect

•    Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, overnights and statutory holidays
•    Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift weight up to 30lbs.


This position must meet the Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and is subject to criminal records and employment verification checks.
