About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic Innovation & Portfolio Management Ottawa team. 

 

The Innovation & Portfolio Management team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing routine testing, as well as other relevant lab duties. In this role, you will support essential laboratory operations by performing routine testing, handling blood components and samples, and contributing to a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Formula for success

  • Receive, inspect, store, and prepare blood components and/or samples following approved procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Maintain supply levels; assist with inventory control, ordering, and shipment inspections.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper storage of all blood components and samples.
  • Contribute to ongoing quality improvement and continuous learning initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace and comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) documentation standards.
  • Adhere to Canadian Blood Services’ Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Desired education and skills

  • Minimum 3 years of laboratory experience following a college diploma, undergraduate degree in science or following a master’s degree.
  • Research laboratory experience, including Molecular biology (PCR, primer design, protein expression), Microscopy, Basic laboratory techniques (pipetting, centrifugation, sample preparation), Relevant computer skills
  • Strong manual dexterity and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain accurate, legible records
  • Initiative and ability to perform repetitive tasks with high precision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to operate automated equipment and computerized workstations
  • Reliable attendance and ability to meet competency requirements
