About the role:

Reporting to the Distribution Supervisor, you will assist in the management, distribution and final disposition of blood and blood products in accordance with all Canadian Blood Services regulations, standards, and good manufacturing practices. You will also maintain blood inventory to meet hospital demand as well as assist in management of quarantine products. 

 

Maintains and provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, promotes continuous learning and participates in on-going quality improvement activities. Performs manual procedures as directed by the supervisor and/or manager in consultation and approval from the appropriate process director.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the distribution activities of blood and blood products to area hospitals and other sites.
  • Assists in the management of the end labelling and of quarantine products to ensure quality and availability of blood products for Hospital customers.
  • Performs duties and routine review of production related activities in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Monitors incoming and prepares outgoing production related shipments in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Performs routine equipment operation and maintenance activities in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Participates in the monitoring and record review of production related equipment and areas in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies, assists supervisory staff with inventory counting and ordering of general supplies, disposables, and receives and inspects supply shipments according to standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains and provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers and promotes continuous learning.
  • Participates in quality improvement and continuous improvement activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Canadian Blood Services' Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Registered with the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT).
  • AND/OR Foreign trained Medical Technician or Technologist with experience who does not have registered status in Canada.
  • AND/OR Formal education, or equivalent – post secondary and one-year laboratory work experience or an equivalent education. An example is a BSc or MSc in an appropriate Health Sciences Discipline.
  • Experience – relevant computers skills required.
  • Qualification and skills required – manual dexterity, ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, initiative, and ability to work independently, ability to carry out repetitive tasks in a meticulous manner.

 

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn required technical skills.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Must have ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Must have the physical abilities to carry out the duties of the job.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, and weekends.
  • Must have good organizational skills and ability to prioritize are required.
  • Must have the ability to operate automated equipment and computerised workstations.
  • Must show attention to detail and the ability to perform detailed documentation in an accurate and legible manner.
  • Good problem-solving skills are required.
  • Must be able to pass all job-related competency assessments.
