Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near one of our major site offices in Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Newfoundlandand will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Lead, Business Intelligence Product Developer to join our dynamic Data and Analytics Centre of Excellence team in our Digital Solutions Technology division.

 

The Data and Analytics Center for Excellence team empowers business units with the clarity, confidence, and tools needed to leverage deep analysis, modeling, agility, and forecasting. Its mission is to elevate data-driven decision-making and support more efficient, high-performing systems that deliver exceptional quality and value. 

 

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Analytics, the Lead Business Intelligence Product Developer brings profound expertise in creating advanced visualizations and interactive applications, essential for informed decision-making and translating knowledge. This role emphasizes extensive work in geospatial analysis and visualization to enhance business user analytics. Additionally, it involves mentoring interns and practicum students in data visualization and geospatial analysis. The role supports data visualization requirements for healthy donor base modelling initiatives and contributes to achieving organizational strategic goals.

 

Formula for Success

  • Using your strong analytical skills, define and refine business intelligence products related to the analytics & modelling strategic initiative to create actionable analytical products.
  • Leveraging your expertise in business intelligence, achitect and implement business intelligence product solutions, encompassing glossary, data visualizations, methodological approaches, and deployment strategies.
  • Drawing on your data analysis skills, generate data-driven features to condense business-relevant concepts and facilitate informed decision-making processes.
  • Harnessing your leadership skills, mentor interns and practicum students to develop their skills and knowledge in data visualization and geospatial analysis.
  • Utlizing your collaboration skills, work closely with domain experts to integrate business intelligence products into decision-making frameworks and tools.
  • Using your business analysis skills, interpret and transform business requirements into conceptual models/prototypes at an appropriate level of detail.
  • Leveraging your expertise in data modelling, communicate complex data models into interactive tools to foster consensus among individuals from diverse backgrounds and technical expertise.
  • Using your strong communication skills, engage in or facilitate knowledge-sharing activities to advance thought leadership within the organization.
  • Drawing on your networking skills, enhance the reputation of the Centre of Excellence through active engagement and presentation of projects to internal and external audiences.
     

Desired Education and Skills

  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering or related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. 
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in BI development, with a strong record of accomplishment of working on data visualization projects.
  • Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI etc.
  • Expertise with geospatial analysis and visualization tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, Mapbox, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, especially their geospatial services.
  • Experience with database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to lead and mentor interns and practicum students on short term projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively conveying complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

 

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, quarterly for in-person team meetings, and as required.
