About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time Logistics Coordinator to join our dynamic Logistics Coordination Centre team in Ottawa.


As a member of the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) Logistics Coordination Centre, the Logistics Coordinator monitors and conducts reviews to determine CBS Users’/Customers’ specific needs and requirements with regards to transportation of time and temperature sensitive products. These products include donor samples, finished blood products, cord blood, plasma protein and related products (PPRP), lab samples, administrative shipments and/or parcels via CBS’ own transportation, and commercial carriers. The incumbent acts as point of contact between CBS users/customers and CBS’ own transportation and commercial carriers.
 

Formula for success

  • Utilizing your expertise in logistics, you will conduct reviews and analyses to determine customers' and users' specific needs regarding the transportation of time and temperature-sensitive products, including donor testing samples, finished blood, plasma protein and related products (PPRP), lab samples, and administrative shipments via CBS’ own transportation and commercial carriers.
  • Applying your knowledge of compliance management, you will ensure adherence to negotiated agreements with commercial carriers, monitoring their performance levels and acting as the primary point of contact between CBS users/customers and commercial carriers.
  • Drawing on your organizational skills, you will process orders and returns while providing inventory controls for Plasma Protein Products (PPP), safeguarding their movement and distribution to various CBS sites across Canada and ultimately to hospital customers.
  • Leveraging your expertise in shipment coordination, you will track and monitor time and temperature-sensitive shipments, ensuring that transportation conditions are maintained and deliveries are made on time.
  • Using your analytical abilities, you will analyze and prepare Key Performance Indicators and benchmark reports for the Manager, Logistics Planning.
  • Harnessing your skills in transportation management, you will monitor and manage transportation matrices for multiple shipping lanes and third-party commercial carriers, preparing background for budget preparation for national logistics carriers. You will also identify and propose opportunities for savings and standardization.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a college degree in Commerce or Business Administration.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in activities related to transportation, shipping and receiving or commercial carrier industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the transportation and commercial carrier.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation's pertaining to shipping requirements of Dangerous Goods and regulations pertaining to shipping of infectious substances.
  • Effective and in-depth working knowledge of personal computers with a Windows NT operating system using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet. 
  • Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available to work on call after hours and weekends on a rotational basis, based on our operational needs.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
