Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Manager, Change Communications to join our dynamic Communications team in our Donor Engagement and Corporate Reputation division.
The Communications team empowers and motivates individuals to join Canada’s Lifeline by creating engaging content, building brand affinity, and preserving confidence in Canadian Blood Services.
As the Manager, Change Communications you will play a pivotal role in driving effective communication strategies in service of Canadian Blood Services’ strategic priorities and organizational transformation agenda. You will work closely with the corporate communications team, change management function within People, Culture and Performance (PCP) and Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO) and senior leaders across the business. You will be responsible for the development and execution of communications strategies to enable clear, valuable, and timely information to employees as well as other internal/external impacted stakeholders. You will also be responsible for supporting work aimed at fostering a culture of reliable, transparent and supportive change management at Canadian Blood Services during a period of unprecedented growth.
Formula for success
- Partner with Change Management leaders, to provide communication support for change management initiatives, help employees understand the reasons for change and the expected outcomes.
- Work closely with senior leaders responsible for major change initiatives, to develop strong relationships and understand the scope of work underway. Provide strategic guidance to those making change management decisions, identify risks and opportunities associated with how stakeholders may respond to the change.
- Build a coordinated approach to message dissemination and leveraging of executive voices in support of change communications.
- Oversee a team responsible for providing strategic communications support and deliverables for high-profile projects in service of our organizational transformation agenda.
- Generate necessary alignment of change communications practices and deliverables across the communications team. Provide guidance and mentorship to the communications team on change communication methodologies.
- With support from strategic partners, develop a holistic narrative about the depth of transformation underway across all divisions within Canadian Blood Services to enable and support change conversations across the business. Provide recommendations and oversee execution of how written and visual content can be leveraged to support understanding and adoption of change narrative.
- Support the design and implement communication plans for significant organizational transformation initiatives, ensuring messages are clear, consistent, and tailored to different audiences.
- Assist in managing communication for sensitive or complex changes, including restructuring, infrastructure changes, or new technology implementations.
- Provide strategic advice and counsel to leadership teams to ensure alignment of communications with organizational goals and change objectives.
- Independently, or with support of a team, develop, and edit various communication materials, including but not limited to key messages, FAQ, written and visual communications, presentations and intranet updates to support the successful delivery of change initiatives. Ensure that content is engaging, clear, and appropriately designed for a diverse audience (roles, locations, communities) within Canadian Blood Services.
- Develop and implement feedback mechanisms to gauge the effectiveness of communication efforts and adjust strategies as needed. Track engagement and feedback to assess the impact of communication efforts on employee understanding and acceptance of change.
Desired education and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field of expertise in change communications.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in change communications, with a focus on change management or internal communications in a complex organizational environment.
- Strong understanding of change management principles and how communication plays a role in managing transitions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with digital communication tools and intranet platforms.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
