The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work from our office at 2540 Lancaster Road, Ottawa, Ontario, based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular Full-time Manager, IT Optimization to join our innovative Internal Customer Experience IT Optimization team. Our IT professionals play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of life-saving products and services across the country. As the organization continues to evolve, modern software development practices and automation are foundational to our IT strategy and central to meeting the demands of a fast-changing environment.

The Internal Customer Experience IT Optimization team helps enable agile ways of working and supports teams in delivering well-managed, user-focused technology solutions. This team plays a dual role: enabling optimization services across development teams and directly managing a portfolio of applications and critical technologies. Key focus areas include containerization, automated testing, robotic process automation, continuous integration, middleware technologies, Azure cloud infrastructure, identity management, ITSM, and DevOps practices, each contributing to improved performance, scalability, and system reliability. 
 

As Manager, IT Optimization and a member of the IT leadership team, you will lead a collaborative team focused on delivering value through modern tools and practices. You’ll work across the organization to support agile, customer-focused solutions.
 

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your skills in process improvement and systems analysis, you will lead initiatives that improve efficiency, system performance, and business outcomes.
  • Drawing on your experience in budget planning and portfolio management, you will manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation across the IT Optimization portfolio.
  • Utilizing your strengths in stakeholder engagement and solution development, you will collaborate with stakeholders to assess needs, define solutions, and promote shared standards and best practices.
  • Applying your knowledge of environmental lifecycle and deployment processes, you will manage certain environments across the software development lifecycle, including provisioning, deployment, and refresh of development, test, and production systems within the application portfolio.
  • Building on your expertise in Azure cloud services and enterprise architecture, you will support Azure cloud infrastructure and ensure alignment with organizational architecture standards.
  • Employing your background in DevOps and automation tools, you will drive automation across CI/CD pipelines, testing, and RPA (robotic process automation) solutions.
  • Using your understanding of system integration and data workflows, you will manage system integration workflows and data exchange processes.
  • Leveraging your skills in identity management systems, you will maintain identity management services, including Active Directory and Azure AD.
  • Relying on your attention to detail in monitoring technologies, you will implement monitoring and alerting solutions to support service health and availability.
  • Drawing on your experience in advanced technical support, you will provide Level 3 triage support and assist in root cause analysis and resolution of complex issues.


Desired education and skills 

  • Post-secondary education with a college diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience leading a high-performing IT team.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Agile teams using Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Strong understanding of Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in both project and product management environments.

What you can expect  

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at 2540 Lancaster Road, Ottawa, Ontario, at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.  
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
