About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our dynamic Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team. 

 

The Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by ensuring the safe, efficient processing and handling of stem cell and cord blood units. This team plays a vital role in improving access to stem cells for patients in need of lifesaving transplants. In this role, you will perform important functions to support laboratory operations and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to follow standard operating procedures are key to your success in this role. 

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your knowledge or experience in a laboratory, you will perform routine maintenance and verification of laboratory equipment in accordance with approved work instructions to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Leveraging your excellent customer service skills, you will assist internal and external customers.
  • Applying your attention to detail and commitment to quality, you will perform and record all testing related quality control/assurance activities.
  • Drawing on your technical expertise and dedication to professional growth, you will maintain technical competency and promote continuous learning.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will participate in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Desired education and skills

  • Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) and currently registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).   
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a laboratory. 
  • Experience with Transfusion Medicine/Red Cell Serology is an asset. 
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills along with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

What you can expect

  • Shifts/hours - must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts including evenings,weekends and on call.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 24 kg (50 lbs.)
