Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Medical Services Supervisor to join our dynamic Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team in our Medical Affairs and Innovation division.
The Medical Affairs and Innovation division is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing oversight for the Centre for Innovation, organ and stem cell donation and transplantation, utilization, donor and clinical services, medical microbiology, and epidemiology. The team ensures that Canadian Blood Services’ medical and scientific support is provided to the ongoing operations of every aspect of their work.
Reporting to the Resource Manager, the Medical Services Supervisor works closely with the Medical Services team as required to provide support for Medical Services programs in accordance with all regulatory and Canadian Blood Services policies, procedures, and practices.
Formula for success
- Overseeing and leveraging your skills in team management, you will coach a team of Medical Services Representatives to ensure adherence to established medical service processes and practices.
- Serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and leveraging your expertise in troubleshooting, you will function as the primary resource for resolving technical issues across team processes and procedures.
- Utilizing your organizational skills, you will ensure the assignment of various administrative tasks to Medical Services Representatives for facilitation of the work of Registered Nurses, Medical Officers, and Transfusion Medicine Nurse Specialist Supervisors.
- Supporting documentation and leveraging your attention to detail, you will assist in the resolution of deviations and minor quality events, while gathering data related to specific programs.
- Assessing existing workflows and leveraging your analytical thinking, you will identify areas for improvement to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging your communication skills, you will work with others in Medical Services to resolve high-priority incidents or system failures.
Desired education and skills
- Post secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree or community college diploma. Training in health-related fields is an asset.
- Minimum of three years of previous experience in process review, improvement, and development.
- Minimum of two years of experience in supervising people/teams both remotely and in the office.
- Effective problem solving and decision-making skills, and ability to conceptualize ideas and information, to utilize and adapt technical/administrative processes on the basis of a broad understanding of principles, practices, and procedures.
- Ongoing demonstration of leadership skills and performance management skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize the workload are essential.
- A proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers is essential.

What you can expect
- This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
- You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
