Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work at 1800 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the Role

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a temporary full-time Pharmacy Summer Student to join our dynamic Plasma Protein and Related Products Formulary Program (PPRP) team in our Medical Affairs and Innovation division.


The PPRP Formulary Program team is responsible for leading Canadian Blood Services’ formulary management processes on behalf of Provinces and Territories to meet patients’ needs.


Reporting to the Associate Director, PPRP, Operations, you will assist in various administrative and operational tasks, gaining valuable experience in pharmacy operations within a dynamic healthcare environment. This role offers an opportunity to enhance your skills in pharmaceutical administration and contribute to the mission of Canadian Blood Services.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your skills in office administration and attention to detail, you will provide administrative support to the Pharmacy team, including data entry, filing, and documentation management. You will collaborate with the pharmacy team to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Drawing on your project management skills and ability to work across teams, you will be responsible for managing projects within various departments, including an onboarding project for team members.
  • Capitalizing on your understanding of regulatory standards and commitment to best practices, you will support members in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Harnessing your skills in operational efficiency and attention to detail, you will participate in operational activities related to pharmaceutical services and assist in the administration of pharmacy contracts and orders.
  • Applying your proficiency in MS Office suite and your strong communication skills, you will prepare reports and presentations as required, utilizing software such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Leveraging your organizational skills and proactive attitude, you will assist in the coordination of pharmacy-related meetings and special events.


Desired education and skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Pharmacy program at an accredited institution.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement for the position.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical terminology and practices.
  • Experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other relevant software is advantageous.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at our office located at 1800 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
