Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
 

Canadian Blood Services, (CBS) is seeking a Regular, Full-time Privacy Officer to join our dynamic Legal Services team.
 

The Privacy Officer is responsible to lead the evolution of the CBS Privacy Program by leveraging a combined expertise in both privacy legislation and best practices, and Information systems security, providing seasoned, specialized subject matter expertise on a broad variety of organizational projects and strategic initiatives.


Formula for success

  • Analyze and assess compliance with applicable privacy laws and best practices, and apply subject matter expertise to provide solutions and improvements that mitigate identified risks.
  • Conduct vendor assessments, provide privacy advice, respond to incidents, collaborate with IT security, monitor compliance, and represent the organization in privacy reviews.
  • Develop and maintain privacy policies, consent documents, and notices; conduct environmental scans; identify and mitigate risks; and track and improve privacy program performance.
  • Develop and update privacy training, provide privacy expertise to stakeholders, maintain privacy program information, and build collaborative relationships to promote privacy compliance.
  • Respond to access requests for personal information in the custody and control of Canadian Blood Services, consulting with management and subject matter experts, as required. 
     

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a degree in a relevant discipline such as law, privacy, technology, computer science, information management or business.
  • Up to seven (7) years combined, progressive related experience in the areas of privacy and data protection.
  • In-depth understanding of privacy, data protection and data management concepts, principles, operations, legislation and regulations.
  • Experience or familiarity with conducting privacy impact assessments on a range of operational projects, including emerging technologies. 
  • Experience responding to access to information requests and experience investigating and responding to privacy incidents.
  • Industry recognized privacy designation such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C), Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP) or Certified
    Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).
  • Knowledge of information management or information security is an asset.
  • Familiarity with technology and information systems is desirable to appropriately assess privacy risks in response to implementation of new technologies, programs and processes.

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be required to travel to the Head Office in Ottawa 2-4 times a year to attend dept. meetings.  This requirement is subject to change at Canadian Blood Services’ sole discretion.
