Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a temporary full-time Procurement Specialist to join our dynamic Procurement team.
The Procurement team is responsible for providing strategic procurement support to Canadian Blood Services through the development of requests for proposal, contract negotiations and supplier qualifications for critical supplies and services. The team works to continuously enhance our procurement policies and procedures and work diligently to help manage our relationships with our suppliers.
In this role through effective management of supplier relations and procurement at a strategic level, you will obtain the best value for goods and services for the organization in support of Canadian Blood Services’ strategic goals. You are responsible for ensuring the timely and effective procurement of relevant commodity groups and establishing agreements that enable the effectiveness of the Materials Management Buyers activities.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your skills in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), you will participate in SRM activities, such as but not limited to, monitoring performance metrics and trends, and recommending actions to strengthen supplier performance and relationships.
- Capitalizing on your expertise in supply risk management, you will participate in the Canadian Blood Services Business Essential Supplies (BES) Supply Risk management program, being responsible to proactively identify areas of external and internal risk of supply and to investigate and execute mitigation solutions in order to provide continuing supply support to the organization.
Utilizing your expertise in requests for proposals and contract negotiations, you will drive successful procurement outcomes and strengthen supplier relationships. - Applying your strategic planning skills, you will develop procurement strategies that deliver optimal value and ensure a secure supply of goods and services aligned with Canadian Blood Services' strategic goals.
- Leveraging your experience in contract compliance and supplier management, you will ensure Canadian Blood Services' requirements are consistently met and foster strong, long-term supplier partnerships.
- Harnessing your capabilities in strategic procurement, you will deliver key services and activities that meet the organization's needs efficiently and effectively, ensuring the best value for money.
- Drawing on your knowledge of supply chain management, you will proactively manage and mitigate supply chain risks to prevent disruptions and maintain continuous operations.
- Adhering to your understanding of health and safety protocols, you will perform work in full compliance with Canadian Blood Services' Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Desired education and skills
- Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably College Diploma in Business Administration or Material Management.
- Certified Supply Chain Management Professional designation, or equivalent, is required.
- A minimum of three - five years of procurement experience, including a minimum of three years of negotiation, contract management and competitive bidding experience, preferably in a GMP or another regulated environment.
- Knowledge in the medical supplies or pharmaceutical industry are a definite asset.
- A detailed knowledge of the principles of procurement as they relate to Request for Proposal, Request for Quotation and Request for Information.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred), Excel and MS Word are definite assets.
Experience working with selection committee to source goods and services. - Proven techniques in procurement strategy development, contract management, negotiating, consulting, cost-benefit analysis, market research and managing the Request for Proposal Process.
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
- Project management skills will be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect
- This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
- You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to other Canadian Blood Services locations across Canada may be required on a need-to basis for site visits, meetings, or events.
