Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Project Lead, Stem Cells to join our dynamic Stem Cells team. 

 

The Medical Affairs and Innovation division provides oversight for innovation and research, organ and stem cell donation and transplantation. Overall, the division ensures medical and scientific support is provided to the ongoing operations of Canadian Blood Services’ work.

As the Project Lead, Stem Cells, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing specific Canadian Blood Services projects and initiatives, or components of major, complex projects. You will develop business cases, coordinate project activities, monitor progress, analyze and report on related issues and risks, and provide guidance and advice to project team members. You will work closely with functional business groups and project managers to achieve project objectives within established cost and time parameters. You will also be responsible for ensuring that Stem Cells adhere to regulatory and accreditation standards, in compliance with applicable stem cell regulations and standards, including those set by Health Canada Cells, Tissues and Organs (CTO), the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), and the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA).

Formula for success

 

  • Leveraging your skills in leadership and project management, you will guide project teams and manage activities within defined projects and specific work streams, as assigned by senior management.
  • Utilizing your expertise in team management and interpersonal skills, you will manage project team members, promote effective relationships, and ensure project success. You will plan, coordinate work, assign activities, and review progress while providing feedback, coaching, and training to optimize team performance.
  • Harnessing your skills in business analysis and strategic planning, you will develop business cases for small projects or contribute to larger scale ones. You will lead the development of these cases by identifying and estimating project benefits, scope, approach, risks, resource requirements, timelines, regulatory requirements, costs, and funding, in accordance with the Canadian Blood Services Project Gating process. 
  • Utilizing your skills in project monitoring and reporting, you will track overall project progress to ensure adherence to timelines, targets, and parameters. You will provide regular status reports to the Project Director, Project Sponsor, Steering Committee, and other relevant parties. 
  • Drawing on your communication skills, you will develop strategies, plans, materials, and tools to keep the project team, business owners, and stakeholders informed about project objectives, plans, development, and implementation schedules. 
  • Utilizing your knowledge of regulatory standards, you will plan for the preparation and execution of certification and accreditation processes in compliance with applicable regulations, including Health Canada Cells, Tissues and Organs (CTO), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), and World Marrow Donor Associate (WMDA). 
  • Capitalizing on your skills in audit management and problem-solving, you will participate in internal and external audits, assist in responding to observations, document results, negotiate corrective action plans, and conduct follow-up activities to verify the effectiveness of implemented corrective actions. 
     

Desired education and skills

 

  • Post-secondary level education, preferably a university degree in a related field. Certification in Project Management, such as PMP designation preferred.
  • A minimum of four (4) years related experience in various project management roles.
  • Previous knowledge or experience with regulations and standards, including Health Canada Cells, Tissues and Organs (CTO), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) and World Marrow Donor Associate (WMDA) would be considered an asset.
  • Proven experience successfully interacting and building credibility with senior managers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgement and understanding of when to seek direction.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret business needs and develop integrated, creative solutions and the ability to develop accurate and detailed reports.

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • Travel requirements – you will be expected to travel as necessary to meet project needs and commitments.
