Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at our Ottawa site office (2540 Lancaster Rd) and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time SAP Business Systems Analyst III (Donor Engagement Digital Transformation Project) to join our Donor Engagement Digital Transformation Project team in Ottawa

 

In this role, you will assist senior Business Systems Analysts of the team to act as the interface between the clients or project team as well as other IT Teams for large, complex business systems. This role acts as a bridge between business and technology, supporting the design, validation, and implementation of the SAP CRM platform and related systems (e.g., CDP, Marketing Automation),ensuring that the solution meets business needs, aligns with enterprise architecture, and supports long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance. You will identify and complete small to medium tasks as part of the project or release. These tasks include, but are not limited to, requirements (use case) gathering, analysis, project plan and work schedule creation, management, project and release coordination, management, test case creation, execution, problem management coordination, trending for existing business systems, resource capacity planning and overall liaison between the business and National Systems Solutions. 

 

Formula for success 

  • Partner with the SI (System Integrator) to ensure the business and technical requirements for SAP CRM, CDP, and MA systems are clearly understood and appropriately translated into system design.
  • Support architectural alignment by reviewing design decisions from the SI and confirming alignment with enterprise standards, integration patterns, and IT strategy.
  • In partnership with more senior members of the team or independently depending upon the size and complexity of the system, establish and maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with assigned client groups, other team members, client Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other Information Technology (IT) Teams.
  • Contribute to technical workshops and design sessions, offering insights on legacy systems, data structures, and integration points to ensure accurate and informed decision-making.
  • Proactively propose business solutions to client groups to leverage technology in improving the business processes and results. For more complex systems, participate in the proposal development and progression.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on the current SAP CRM configuration and its integrations, providing institutional knowledge to guide solution design.
  • Assist in integration validation by helping define interface requirements, review integration documentation, and confirm compatibility with internal systems and data flows.
  • Participate in fit-gap analyses and requirement reviews to ensure the SI's solution aligns with end-user needs and internal expectations.
  • Document internal assumptions and expectations around system behavior, support models, and performance metrics to inform technical design decisions.
  • Coordinate with internal IT teams (e.g., infrastructure, Basis, cloud operations) to ensure technical dependencies and environment readiness are addressed on schedule.
  • Support test planning and execution, review integration and performance test results and assist in the triage of defects or performance issues.
  • Review technical deliverables and documentation from the SI to ensure clarity, completeness, and readiness for operational handoff.
  • Facilitate internal knowledge transfer by participating in training sessions, contributing to support documentation, and helping build operational readiness.
  • Advocate for sustainable design choices by promoting low-maintenance, scalable, and extensible configurations that reduce future technical debt.
  • Identify and escalate technical or design risks to the project manager, contributing to issue resolution and mitigation planning. Provide timely reporting of progress and issues to management.
  • Support procurement and vendor evaluation efforts by reviewing solution proposals, focusing on architectural fit, technical feasibility, and vendor assumptions.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Business, Computer Sciences or Computer/Software Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience as a project manager, systems analyst, process specialist, software developer or business systems analyst.
  • Experience in the client business processes to be supported with an aptitude for system design.
  • Experience with customer data platforms, multimedia marketing solutions, and SAP Customer Experience or CRM solutions is considered an asset.
  • Exemplar documentation skills (e.g., use case, business requirements, functional specifications, project plans, training, and user guides).
  • Exemplar project management skills for managing and implementing projects of a larger scale (scope, complexity, and budget).
  • Ability to articulate requirements to IT subject matter experts.
  • Exemplar communications skills in English.
