Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to join our dynamic Data and Analytics Center of Excellence team, in our Information Technology division

 

The IT Center for Excellence team through the enterprise data governance program is responsible for ensuring our data is secure, private, accurate, available, and usable across the organization.

 

In this role, you will act as the bridge between the finance business units and the Center of Excellence team, translating business requirements into designs for advanced data solutions. You will apply systems thinking (i.e. the intersection of data, technology and people) to resolve or improve complex business challenges and opportunities. 

 

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your proficiency in accessing data from various sources, such as relational databases, financial systems and distributed data sources, you will lead the partnership of the finance business units in the integration of data to support business insights, experiment on design for financial modeling, forecasting and benchmarking and will lead the creation of dashboards, self-served reports and visualization solutions to measure business results and performance outcomes. You will prototype data sets used in financial reporting, analyze, design, implement, and interpret results using common financial method, such as forecasting, modelling, audits, financial metrics and KPIs.
  • Harnessing your ability to understand and translate the most strategic, operational, and tactical dimensions of a business need/opportunity to envision solutions and how analytics and AI solutions can be delivered in an agile, iterative manner. You will work closely with business units to understand data requirements and to provide them with improved business outcomes such as:
    • Act with minimal supervision to serve as a trusted advisor and facilitator to business units, you will combine financial analysis with an understanding of the business to drive ad-hoc analyses to projects and provide strategic insights and recommendation.
    • Apply senior expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and help advise, influence and support, and execute on the decision making.
    • Provide analytics results directly to business users, identifying trends and insights. As a senior team member, it is expected that the deliverables are of the highest quality and accuracy.
  • Drawing on your demonstrated knowledge and expertise, you will support the advancement and evolution of Canadian Blood Services’ data & analytics program and the Centre of Excellence by:
    • Acting as a champion and change agent for the creation of a data-driven mindset at Canadian Blood Services.
    • Leading the development of proposals and business cases for data & analytics initiatives.
    • Leading the design and delivery of a data literacy program to educate leaders and decisions makers on how to analyze, interpret, visualize and communicate with data using a consistent organizational vocabulary.
    • Interpreting and communicating complex analysis and findings for a variety of audiences, with minimal oversight.
    • Supporting corporate data governance practices.
    • Promoting analytic usage and skills among management and employees through training, mentoring, and the selection of appropriate analytics tools.
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of data and best-in-class methods and analytic approaches relevant to advancing the products and goals of the organization. 

 

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, financial accounting, economics, Statistics, or equivalent.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a business systems analyst, or equivalent experience in one or more business areas (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Planning, Donor Relations, Payroll, HR reporting, Procurement, Supply Chain, Inventory Management).
  • Three to five (3-5) years of combined experience with data and analytics.
  • Experience with business process development and problem analysis.
  • Proven ability and continued desire to learn new IT skills and enhance project management skills in a fast-paced, dynamic, and challenging environment with the goal of delivering a great customer experience.
  • Strong documentation skills (e.g., use cases/stories, business requirements, project plans, training, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and direct new programs and manage projects.
  • Strong communications skills (writing and presentation) with wide appeal to varying internal audiences.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/ 2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day. 
  • Depending on where you are located, you may be required to travel to Ottawa annually, and as required.
