Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Senior Data Quality Analyst to join our dynamic Data and Analytics Center of Excellence team in our Digital Solutions Technology division.
The Data and Analytics Center for Excellence team through the enterprise data governance program is responsible for ensuring our data is secure, private, accurate, available, and usable across the organization.
Reporting to the Manager- Data Governance Quality and Standards, you will bring profound expertise with oversight responsibilities in support of the ongoing enterprise data quality initiative. The goal is to steer data quality initiatives within the enterprise data governance framework, ensuring data remains accurate, reliable, and actionable. Also, to ensure that the data made discoverable through Microsoft Purview is trustworthy, complete, and aligned with business expectations. You will also be responsible for supporting the Manager in enterprise data quality initiatives. You will work closely with the Data Governance team to assess, validate, and improve the quality of data assets catalogued in Microsoft Purview. This role involves running data health checks, performing data validations, and aligning data quality efforts with business rules and processes. You will use SQL-based tools, enterprise cataloguing platforms, and Azure services to support data discovery, quality assurance, and lineage analysis.
Formula for success
- You will query relational databases (SQL/MySQL) to discover, validate, and assess the quality of key data assets.
- You will be responsible for implementing and managing data health checks and validation processes on assets catalogued in Microsoft Purview.
- Harnessing your strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you will evaluate column-level attributes and metadata to identify quality gaps and inconsistencies.
- Applying your excellent interpersonal skills, you will collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand business rules and how they apply to data preprocessing and transformation.
- Utilizing your strong organizational skills, you will support the development of data quality dashboards or reports as needed.
- Focusing on your attention to detail, you will ensure alignment between data cataloguing efforts and practical data quality use cases to support business intelligence and reporting needs.
- You will be responsible for contributing to the refinement of data lineage tracking and metadata enrichment.
- You will collaborate with domain experts to integrate data quality assessments and reporting into decision-making.
- Drawing on your ability to develop strong working relationships, you will work alongside stakeholders and leadership to shape and propel and socialize data quality.
- Leveraging your strong communication and facilitation skills, you will be responsible for enhancing the reputation of the Centre of Excellence through active engagement and presentation of projects to internal and external audiences.
Desired education and skills
- Completion of an advanced degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering or related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in data quality, with a strong record of accomplishment of working on data discovery, validation, and quality analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with other programming languages such as Python, R, or JavaScript, especially for data manipulation and preparation.
- Strong experience in SQL or MySQL for data discovery, validation, and quality analysis.
- Familiarity with enterprise data cataloguing tools, ideally Microsoft Purview.
- Ability to work with relational databases and comfort managing structured data assets.
- Understanding of data quality principles, including profiling, validation, cleansing, and monitoring.
- Experience or familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, or related cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience working in data governance, BI, or enterprise data management settings.
- Ability to understand business processes, preprocessing logic, and data transformation rules as they relate to data quality.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively conveying complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
