Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at our Ottawa head office (1800 Alta Vista Drive) and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a (3-Year) Temporary Full-Time Senior Financial Analyst, Inventory,  to join our dynamic Financial Reporting and Services team in our Finance and Corporate Services division. 

 

The Financial Reporting and Servicesteam delivers timely, high-quality financial reporting to Canadians, the Board, and funders, supporting transparency, public trust, and effective financial management. It safeguards public funds by ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial systems, processes, and reporting. 

 

In this role, you will require a broad understanding of financial concepts, principles and applications and possess the ability to analyze, investigate, prepare and present complex accounting situations requiring input of non-finance Canadian Blood Services’ business groups in a clear and concise manner. In addition, you must be able to redesign and implement more efficient and robust processes while improving the quality Canadian Blood Services’  reporting. 

Formula for success

  • Lead inventory financial management: Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of inventory cost accounting and financial inventory management to ensure accuracy, integrity, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Deliver strategic insights: Develop and present in-depth financial analyses on inventory and costing across all Canadian Blood Services programs, translating complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Champion reporting excellence: Manage all internal and external inventory-related financial reporting, ensuring information is timely, accurate, and compliant with accounting standards and internal controls.
  • Ensure financial precision: Oversee accurate invoicing for provincial and territorial members, validating the allocation of product and program costs with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Drive process improvement: Identify, design, and implement more efficient and robust financial processes to strengthen internal controls, improve data quality, and enhance overall reporting efficiency and transparency.
  • Be the trusted audit partner: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors on all inventory-related matters, preparing reconciliations, supporting documentation, and detailed explanations to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Lead national inventory oversight: Facilitate and monitor annual inventory counts across Canada, ensuring sufficient internal controls and adherence to inventory accounting standards.
  • Foster compliance and efficiency: Manage daily financial activities related to inventory, ensuring adherence to Canadian Blood Services’ policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate and contribute: Work cross-functionally with finance and operational leaders to deliver integrated financial insights that drive value across the organization. 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline is required and an accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) is required. 
  • 5 + years of relevant experience. 
  • Understanding and experience in the use of SAP or an equivalent ERP application is required or a strong technology acumen to allow for a quick learning curve. 
  • Experienced in inventory costing with a strong knowledge of costing concepts.
  • An understanding, ability and willingness to leverage technology to improve our processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills; able to interpret complex operational and financial data.
  • Proficient in researching accounting standards and recommending best practices.
  • Knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
