About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting to join our dynamic Financial Reporting team.
The Financial Reporting team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by preparing financial reporting and related materials to various board and committees for Canadian Blood Services’ various entities, including Canadian Blood Services, its captive insurance entities, and its pension plans. The team plays a key role in reporting financial matters to external stakeholders and owns the relationship with external auditor function that is critical to ongoing funding.
In this role, you will require a strong understanding of financial concepts, principles and applications and possess the ability to analyze, investigate, prepare, and present complex accounting issues in a clear and concise manner. In addition, you will lead initiatives to advance the maturity and effectiveness of the organization’s treasury function. This role is responsible for enhancing cash flow forecasting accuracy, optimizing liquidity management processes, and strengthening treasury policies and controls. The ideal candidate will identify gaps and opportunities, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement to support the organization’s strategic financial objectives.
Formula for Success
Captive Insurance
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records for the assigned captive insurance company, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with accounting policies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and validate consolidation entries and supporting schedules to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting within Canadian Blood Services’ consolidated financial statements, in compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Develop clear and concise financial briefing notes, variance analysis, and recommendations for presentation to the captive insurance and Canadian Blood Service’s board of directors.
- Coordinate and prepare support for the external auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders to support audit and review processes.
Treasury
- Develop and implement enhanced cash flow forecasting methodologies, incorporating advanced analytics and scenario planning.
- Assess current treasury processes, systems, and controls to identify areas for improvement and increased effectiveness.
- Collaborate with finance, operations, and other stakeholders to integrate treasury insights into broader financial planning and decision-making.
- Monitor and optimize working capital, including development and implementation of strategies.
- Oversee the day-to-day treasury function, including monitoring cash positions, managing bank accounts, and ensuring accurate recording of transactions in compliance with internal controls and policies.
- Manage relationships with banking partners to optimize banking services, fees, and structures.
- Assess liquidity requirements and make recommendations on borrowing or repayments under the organization’s line of credit to ensure optimal cash positioning and minimize interest costs.

- Leveraging your continuous improvement mindset, you will actively seek to continuously improve processes and reporting with an objective of ensuring optimal levels of controls, availability of value-added information, process efficiencies and strong financial performance.
- Cross-training and collaboration with other roles within Financial Reporting will be encouraged to build team resilience, enhance flexibility, and support continuous learning.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Desired Education and Skills
- Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant discipline and an accounting designation (CPA) will be required.
- You will have 5 or more years of relevant experience.
- You will be required to have a broad knowledge of advanced accounting principles, accounting systems, analytical functions, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
- You will be required to have a comprehensive understanding of financial accounting and reporting under GAAP (ASPE and IFRS).
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise briefing notes and actionable recommendations for senior management and the Board.
- Preferably, you will have audit experience.
- Expertise in treasury functions—such as cash management, hedging, and cash flow forecasting—is highly desirable. Experience in captive insurance is also considered a valuable asset.
- You will possess an understanding, ability, and willingness to leverage technology to improve our processes.
