Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Research Associate, Biostatistician/SAS Programmer to join our dynamic Donation Policy and Studies team in our Medical Affairs and Innovation division.
The Epidemiology department within Donation Policy and Studies is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by surveillance of blood-transmissible infections in donors, research on donor selection criteria, and evaluation of donor health criteria.
In this role, you will manage a large SAS database, provide advice and will be responsible for data collection and management to support research activities. You will conduct statistical analysis and provide interpretation of study results. Prepare internal and external reports. You will also supervise research assistants and clerical staff and remain involved in all aspects of operations.
Formula for success
- Harnessing your strong attention to detail and analytical skills, you will manage a complex SAS database, extract data and prepare datasets for analysis. Manage data validation processes, plan and carry out statistical analysis.
- Drawing on your strong time management and organizational skills, you will organize and carry out analytic activities. Prepare and maintain standard research and data management protocols and develop analytic plans.
- Leveraging your continuous growth mindset and excellent interpersonal skills, you will advise the Associate Director regarding new statistical methodologies and techniques to support research activities.
- Utilizing your knowledge and demonstrated expertise, you will ensure effective use of analytical and statistical techniques in evaluating results or changes. Provide scientific interpretation of the results and prepare tables and figures for reports and publications.
- Concentrating on your excellent communication and writing skills, you will write manuscripts for publication under the direction of the Associate Director.
- Leveraging your ability to lead and work collaboratively across a diverse team, you will supervise research assistants and clerical staff, assign duties and ensure completion of tasks.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Desired education and skills
- A graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science or related field
- Sound experience in SAS database management (data extraction, linkage, validation and manipulation) is essential. (Note: applicants with strong background in R or SQL programming may be considered)
- An acceptable record of publication in scientific journals.
- Sound technical skills in statistical and epidemiological software.
- Strong communication skills are essential.
- Excellent writing skills are essential.
- Experience with administrative health records an asset.
